By train from Warsaw to Łódź in 40 minutes. New visualisations of the route

The company Centralny Port Komunikacyjny has published new visualisations showing what the railway line from Warsaw to Łódź will look like. The visualisations show flyovers, tunnel service buildings or a maintenance base. These are essential elements for the proper functioning of the express route.

Railway line no. 85 on the section between Warsaw West – CPK – Łódź Niciarniana will become part of the High Speed Railway in Poland under construction. The section from Warsaw to Łódź is due to be operational in 2032, at the same time the new airport is planned to be operational.

The railway line from Warsaw to Łódź will be the most modern in the country. Engineers plan to build a route that will be integrated into the landscape, built using environmentally friendly materials and technologies. In total, the section will be 140 km long and will be built in several sections.

Visualisations show the facilities necessary for the route to function properly. Among others, the tunnel service building is presented. The simple facade of the building will be covered with plants. The visualisations also show the maintenance base, which is to be the heart supporting the proper functioning of the railway line. It is not only a hall and track layout, but also facilities to support the repair and maintenance processes of the route. The depots have been located at the junctions with the existing lines to enable the delivery of materials and equipment for the construction and subsequent operation of the railway line without disrupting High Speed Rail traffic.

As part of the project, the longest railway tunnel in Poland will be built. The 10km-long tunnel under Odolany in Warsaw has been designed as a two-bay structure. In turn, the tunnel’s double-stranded construction is intended to provide for efficient evacuation. Passages between the tubes will be arranged every 500 m to allow access to the safe zone.

The fastest trains on the Warsaw-Lodz route will cover this section in around 40 minutes, almost twice as long as at present. The new railway line to Łódź will be part of route “Y”, which will eventually run to Poznań and Wrocław. In total, the ‘Y’ route is to be 480 km long and is scheduled to be completed in 2035.

The railways plan to start construction work in the second half of 2026.
