By train to Modlin Airport. The railway company has launched a tender

Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. has launched a tender for the construction of a new rail link to Warsaw-Modlin Airport in the Mazovia region. This marks the next stage of a project aimed at providing direct and convenient rail access to the airport terminal. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Mazovia Regional Government.

The planned line will connect the airport with Modlin station. The approximately 5.5-kilometre section will be double-tracked, enabling efficient handling of passenger traffic. The existing Modlin station will be expanded to include an additional track and a 200-metre platform. A key element of the project is the construction of a new railway station directly adjacent to the airport terminal, as well as a freight station. The investment also includes three road viaducts – along national road No. 62, county road No. 2413W and the internal road leading to the port. These solutions are designed to ensure smooth and collision-free traffic in the airport area.

The importance of the project is highlighted by Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak: “A direct rail link straight to Modlin Airport means greater comfort for passengers and saves them time. The project will be a huge convenience for thousands of travellers every day. As the Ministry of Infrastructure, we are committed to the development of all modes of transport and their integration. In practice, such cooperation translates into tangible benefits for passengers.”

The new line will reduce journey times to the airport and integrate rail and air transport. Currently, travellers must change to a bus running between Modlin station and the terminal. Once the project is complete, trains will run directly to the airport grounds, which will also provide a convenient connection to the centre of Warsaw.

Adam Struzik, Marshal of the Mazovia Province, highlights the long-term benefits of the project: “This is an important and long-awaited investment. The new line is due to be completed by the end of 2029. Crucially, it will link Warsaw’s two airports. The investment itself will support the development of Warsaw-Modlin Airport, which plans to increase its capacity and launch new routes.”

The work schedule is precisely defined. Construction is set to begin in 2027 and be completed in 2029. The project is being carried out as part of the task “Construction of a section of railway line from Modlin station to Mazowiecki Port Lotniczy (MPL) Warsaw/Modlin and construction of the Mazowiecki Port Lotniczy (MPL) Warsaw/Modlin railway station”. Railway officials are counting on funding from the European Funds for Mazovia 2021–2027 programme. The Mazovia Province local government has secured nearly PLN 167 million from its own funds for the project and has financed the design documentation.
