Architects admit that the interior of Gdańsk’s Cacko pizzeria works like well-made dough. It is springy, solid, with a distinct character, but without exaggeration. Diana Żurek and Gutek Girek from Furora Studio have created a space that draws on classic Italian restaurants, but presents it in a contemporary, light and orderly way. In 100 square metres, they have managed to build a place that does not strive for showiness, but consistently guides the guest through successive layers of experience. Until the fullness of flavours.
The interior layout has been designed so that visitors can move around intuitively. First, they head towards the central area of the restaurant, where the bar becomes a natural focal point. Further on, the space opens up to more intimate nooks and crannies, allowing guests to settle in for a long dinner. Long tables encourage the energy of communal dining, while smaller tables along the walls provide privacy. The passageways remain comfortable and “breathable”, even though the interior is rich in detail.
Calm atmosphere
Dark walnut wood creates a deep background. It is warm here, but without any heaviness that could be overwhelming. The high walls and distinct vertical lines add elegance, while the soft lighting maintains an evening-friendly atmosphere. The skylights work subtly – they diffuse the light, soften the boundaries between zones and introduce intimacy without closing off the space.
The raw ceiling and exposed technology do not serve as a contrast, but become an integral part of the composition. It is an honest display of the structure of a place that is alive and does not pretend to be something it is not. Just like sincere Italian dishes.

Time for details
Steel elements introduce coolness and a sense of precision, bringing order to the whole. Yellow accents appear sparingly. Italian products, wine bottles and tomato cans also serve as decorative elements. These small interventions give the interior a distinctive character and subtly inform visitors about Cacko’s culinary specialities.
The design is the work of Diana Żurek and Gutek Girek, better known as the “Jesus of design”. At Cacko, they both show that they can work with the classics without falling into clichés. Cacko does not flaunt its style, it does not impose itself and does not try to be more impressive than it should be. It is a restaurant that tells its story calmly and tastily.
