Cashmere and tradition. Mongolia’s outfits for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games

During the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Mongolian national team will present ceremonial and everyday outfits designed by GOYOL Cashmere. The collection was created with a distinctive cultural message in mind, rooted in the local crafts of the steppes, mountains and deserts of Central Asia.

Mongolia’s outfits inspired by heritage

GOYOL Cashmere, the brand chosen by the Mongolian Olympic Committee to create the official national team wardrobe for the February Games, is responsible for the design of the outfits. The task was entrusted to an experienced company that specialises in working with cashmere and interpreting cultural motifs. The collection was developed as an expression of Mongolian identity and centuries-old tradition. The sporting arena will be the perfect place to showcase this rich heritage. The designers at GOYOL Cashmere drew on archetypes of ancient costumes and gave them a contemporary, refined twist, avoiding simple references to folk fashion.

Inspiration from the Great Mongol Empire

The starting point for the design team’s work was the clothing from the period of the Great Mongol Empire’s power in the 13th-15th centuries. The silhouettes retain the main elements of the traditional deela, such as a side slit for freedom of movement, a raised collar to protect against the wind, and a tightly fitting front, associated with warmth and community. Luxurious Mongolian cashmere is finished with silk and decorated with horn-motif embroidery, known from local ornamentation. It is these details that give the costumes a ceremonial and elegant look.

Mongolian outfits in several versions

In addition to formal outfits, GOYOL Cashmere has also prepared casual sets made of high-quality cashmere knitwear. Their style refers to Alpine ski sweaters originating from Western mountain culture, complemented by symbols of the yurt and references to the nomadic lifestyle of the Mongols. Cashmere knitwear is one of the most noble and luxurious materials in the world. It has been used by the nomadic peoples of Central Asia for centuries, as it allows them to survive the extremely harsh winters there. In the new collection for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, it becomes a vehicle for the rich and still wild culture of Mongolia.
