Colour and folklore with a modern twist. A unique flat in Legnica

Colour, folklore and eclecticism form the foundation of this 60-square-metre flat in Legnica, which Monika Staniec designed for a young couple seeking a bold and deeply personal interior. Right from the start, the architect and the clients made it clear that they spoke the same aesthetic language: they are drawn to nature, rich colours and the free mixing of styles. The flat’s owner, the lead singer of the band Projekt Wianek, gave the designer an additional clue – a contemporary interpretation of folklore, which became one of the key inspirations behind the new space.

The starting point turned out to be the cross-stitch motif. The designer found Spanish tiles with a print resembling embroidery on a black background, in intense colours. This choice set the direction for further material decisions. As a result, deep burgundy became the dominant colour of the entire project, featured on the ceilings as well as in the kitchen and bathroom. Even the wall-hung toilet was finished in this shade, emphasising the consistency of the concept.

In the kitchen, the burgundy is paired with blue-grey cabinet fronts, creating an original and harmonious composition. The space is complemented by vintage Murano lamps sourced from an online auction site. One of the most important functional solutions is the mobile kitchen island. It can serve as an additional worktop, a table and a gathering spot. Its steel frame was handcrafted by the flat’s owner, giving this element a uniquely personal character.

Second-hand furniture and accessories feature throughout the flat. Each brings its own story, whilst helping to keep the budget under control; the budget was originally set at around 100,000 zlotys and was exceeded only slightly, without compromising on quality. Subtle stucco work organises the space and provides an elegant frame, whilst Wall Art wallpaper and Eurofirany curtains introduce additional layers of colour.

One of the most striking features is the SPLOT kilim – a bold textile element that ties the entire interior together and serves as the focal point of the flat. Combined with the burgundy bathroom set against olive green, the eclectic kitchen and furniture of varied origins, it creates a cohesive, vibrant space.

Monika Staniec has created an interior in Legnica that proves it is possible to create a design that is intense, functional and deeply rooted in the owners’ identitywithin a 60 sq m space . Well done!
