Colour as the main accent, i.e. a 38-square-metre flat in the Tricity

A small, only 38-square-metre flat located in the Tricity, architect Marta Kleyna transformed it into a space where a calm base made of natural materials received a completely new expression through the use of intense colours and refined details. The whole arrangement was planned with the owner in mind, who wanted an interior that was functional, but at the same time not boring. It had to provide a sense of relaxation and not dampen energy.

The interior design of this seaside nest was based on a minimalist form, complemented by expressive accents. Instead of ornaments and decorative elements, there are skilfully chosen colours. The orange painting above the sofa, the deep maroon in the bedroom’s built-in or the blue lamp above the marble kitchen worktop give the space a unique rhythm. Everything has been tailored to the lifestyle of the owner, who values clarity and pace, but also seeks domestic tranquillity. The interior has been built up in layers using micro-cement, textured plaster (deliberately applied in a messy way that emphasises the play of light), as well as textiles and bespoke artwork.

The bedroom, despite its limited space, surprises with its depth of colour. In the living room, there is a balance between light and form, while the bathroom combines simplicity with functionality. The maroon table from JYSK proved to be an important element of the arrangement, setting the tone for the entire colour scheme. Other furniture used to create the interior comes from TYLKO, IWC Meble, IKEA, HVYT and Lexavala, among others. The kitchen, on the other hand, was designed to visually ‘disappear’ and not dominate, which helps to keep the composition clean. The design is dominated by a calmness that can be transformed at will and the colours act as a variable accent.

“I wanted to create an interior that could evolve. The base is classic and calm, and the colours – easy to change when the desire to refresh comes. But for today – it’s 100% the character of the owner,” – says Marta Kleyna.

Her Tricity flat shows that good design does not have to be hundreds of square metres. All you need is an idea, consistency and a bit of courage.
