Colours and functionality. This is how a young couple from Gdansk lives

The interior design prepared by the Szydlik Wnętrza studio was created for a young couple who have just started their life together in Gdańsk. The architects named the realisation Le Monde, which means ‘the world’ in French. The name reflects the idea of creating a place that will become a personal micro-world for the owners, a space for living, relaxing and building common rituals.

The starting point in the project was to reorganise the functional layout of the 89-square-metre flat. The original plan included a long and narrow corridor, which limited the living space. By changing the layout of the rooms, it was possible to shorten it and open up the kitchen area, which visually enlarged the entire interior. At the same time, the architects fulfilled one of the owners’ key wishes, namely to create a private bathroom connected directly to the bedroom.

In a further design stage, the focus was on ergonomics and comfort. All the furniture was designed individually, with a view to making maximum use of the available space. The kitchen cabinets, the chest of drawers in the living room and the bathroom furniture serve a practical function, but also provide a backdrop for the householder’s personal touches. In the living room, space was found for their collection of books and decorations, and in the kitchen, even the space around the technical cabinet was used, where a capacious utility cupboard was hidden.

The final stage of the work was the interior colour scheme. The designers opted for bold, energetic colours to reflect the owners’ youthful enthusiasm. Reds and purples introduce dynamism, while greens and blues balance their intensity, creating a perfectly harmonised combination. All this was juxtaposed with neutral shades of white, grey and natural wood.

The Le Monde project is one of those interiors where maximum functionality meets emotion, and every detail serves to create a space that suits the inhabitants’ lifestyle. The result is a home full of light, colour and individual meaning, reflecting the energy of a young couple.
