Next to Sopot’s main promenade, a designer flat has been created in a tenement from the late 19th century, which is a fusion of historical elements with a modern arrangement. The flat, with an area of almost 150 square metres, remained empty for many years and then served as a council flat, which over time became significantly dilapidated. After a long and complicated process, in 2020 the owner managed to take over the flat and restore its splendour.
The designer and investor is Ola Szewczul, who carried out a comprehensive metamorphosis of the flat in nine months. The work was carried out with care to preserve the original character of the interior, while introducing original solutions inspired by contemporary design. Stylist Anna Salak, responsible for the final presentation of the effects, also participated in the project.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Wimal Prestige company, the antique doors were renovated, and conservators Dominika Siwek and Kacper Prus took care of the stucco reconstruction and created unique paintings on the bedroom ceilings. The original layout of the rooms was also restored, the old tiled cookers were preserved and their missing elements were completed.
The interior design was based on the motifs of roundness and soft forms, which are a characteristic element of the developer’s work. The circle motif appears in the architecture of the rooms, the furniture and the decorative details. The wooden parquet was made according to Ola Szewczul’s individual design, and the tiles in the kitchen, corridor and bathroom come from the Mosaic Factory brand. The wall mosaic in the kitchen by Ania Link Ceramics also attracts attention.

The premises feature original furniture by Polish designers from the 1960s, lamps and vintage accessories from Vintola Studio, which is also owned by the investor. The carpenter Jacek Nowak from Jabart realised the rounded built-in in the kitchen and bedrooms, as well as the table designed by Ola. This is complemented by Pap Deco handles and Smeg household appliances. The bedrooms feature beds with distinctive headrests designed by Katarzyna Jasyk of HB Projektant.
The interior is complemented by carefully selected contemporary art. On the walls hang works by Paul Bik and Nikodem Szpunar created in the form of a circle, especially for this project. You can also find ceramic objects by Malwina Konopacka and Muko Studio, as well as glass sculptures by Aleksandra Kujawska and Justyna Ratasiewicz of Ratas Szkło. In the lounge, the lamps designed by Ms Jurek catch the eye.
The result of Ola Szewczul’s work is a designer flat with a unique character, in which vintage elements are boldly juxtaposed with modern design. The classic space of a Sopot tenement has been given new life, becoming an oasis of perfect harmony of history and contemporary design.
