On the top floor of one of Krakow’s buildings, an interior was created that combines the austerity of materials with elegance and comfort in everyday life. This is the second project that architects Kinga Rusek-Szporko and Barbara Wojnicka have prepared for the same investors. This time, their task was to create a 150 sq m space that fits in with the metropolitan style while remaining a functional place to live. The omnipresent concrete gives the interior a raw feel, but wooden accessories warm up the space.
Work began while the building was still under construction, which allowed changes to be made to the wall layout and installations. As a result, the flat has gained a clear division into living and private areas and better meets the needs of the residents. Right from the entrance, attention is drawn to the spacious living room connected to the dining room and kitchen. The focal point of this part is the island – not only a place for cooking, but also for everyday conversations over coffee. The architects opted for a BORA induction hob with integrated absorber, which turned out to be an ideal solution in the open space.
The kitchen cabinet was designed to hide the sink in a stone recess. The oven and coffee machine were placed in one line, with a large built-in fridge opposite. A wine cooler was placed next to it, above which a cabinet with a glass front was integrated. This is topped off with an illuminated display cabinet with curved doors as a subtle decoration. The kitchen flows seamlessly into the dining room with a large table and then into the living room, where the neutral colour scheme of light grey, cool beige, white and light wood juxtaposed with black creates a relaxing atmosphere.
Further into the suite, there is a glazed study. Its character is built up by the simple but distinctive Belt lamp from FLOS in the Cooper Brown shade. At the end of the corridor, a minimalist guest toilet was designed, where the free-standing Albume glass washbasin from Antonio Lupi and the Sen Agape mixer tap were enough to create an interior full of refined minimalism. A mirrored wall further visually enlarges the space.
The private area is kept in light, muted colours. The bedroom and bathroom have been designed as places of relaxation, where natural wood is juxtaposed with distinctive stone on the countertops. These are the only stronger accents in this part of the flat, emphasising the calm character of the interiors.

Raw concrete became the leitmotif of the entire project. The architects and investors decided to leave it on the ceiling in every room. Concrete also appears on the walls – in the study, the guest toilet and behind the bed in the bedroom. Although often associated with coldness, here it gave the space a metropolitan feel, harmonising with the micro-cement flooring, particularly practical in the kitchen. To maintain balance, the remaining walls were covered with white plaster.
The whole is complemented by custom-made furniture in oak veneer, which is lightly whitewashed, and natural oak flooring in the living room, guest room and bedroom. These give the interior a cosy and warm feel, despite the presence of concrete and micro-cement. The flat in Krakow is an example of how the conscious use of raw materials can create a space that is elegant, functional and full of atmosphere, in which everyday life takes on a unique character.
