Diving base in Piechcin. Bold project by a student

The turquoise surface of the lake in Piechcin was the inspiration for the diploma project of Justyna Kruzel, a student at the Bydgoszcz University of Technology. A diving base in Piechcin could be built on the site of a former quarry, whose limestone bottom reflects light like the Adriatic coast.

Its location in the municipality of Barcin, in the district of Żnin, in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, is an asset for a post-industrial region seeking to revive itself through recreation. The unique colour of the water attracts the attention of not only keen divers, but also tourists looking for unusual sights.

At the heart of the complex is a four-element structure of floating objects, harmonised with the surroundings of the reservoir. Each module has a strictly defined function, but their interplay creates a coherent service and educational ecosystem.

The main building BN-01 is the central meeting and integration point for visitors. A café with a large viewing terrace, a conference room and an office area are planned for the ground floor, while the ground floor has been arranged as a multifunctional exhibition and conference space. This is where workshops, thematic training courses and local events will take place. Two identical floating accommodation pavilions, BN-02A and BN-02B, provide comfortable relaxation with panoramic views of the lake. Each room opens onto a private pier, allowing you to relax directly on the water as soon as you leave your room.

The technical and training facility BN-03 provides a comprehensive service for divers: from changing and equipment servicing to specialised training in the underwater lounge. The direct descent into the water and the ability to easily move modules allow exploration of different parts of the body of water.

The design focuses on sustainability, safety and ergonomics in water conditions. The design of the floating modules has been developed to ensure flexibility of deployment and easy transport to any location on the lake.

The realisation of the concept opens up a wide range of possibilities: from recreational diving to advanced courses to the exploration of aquatic environments in post-industrial areas. With its bold design and unconventional function, the project promotes the region as an attractive destination for water sports and tourism.
