There is a consistent renovation of historic tenements included in the city’s investment support programmes in Łódź. More addresses are regaining their former elegance thanks to grants from the city budget and works carried out as part of the Special Revitalisation Zone. The recent completion of the modernisation of the building at 23 POW Street closes this year’s phase of undertakings focused on improving the aesthetics of historic quarters and raising the standard of individual townhouses in this part of the city. The effect of these works is truly impressive!
The renovation of 23 POW Street as a summary of this year’s activities
The tenement house at 23 Polskiej Organizacji Wojskowa Street underwent a comprehensive renovation of the front elevation this year. The investment was supported by the provision of PLN 590,000 from the city’s grant programme. The work lasted from August to December and involved cleaning the façade, filling in defects and reconstructing the stucco decorations that had disappeared over the years from the upper floors of the building. It was this spectacular metamorphosis that became the final completed project in this year’s schedule of investments covering this area.
The elegance of an eclectic townhouse returns
The tenement house at 23 Polskiej Organizacji Wojskowa Street has three floors with a basement and an attic. The entire building was erected in an eclectic style at the turn of the 20th century. On both sides of the front, representative façade, there are two-storey bays, diversifying the body of the building and marking its distinct proportions. The ground and first floors are decorated with rustication. The restoration of this part, plus the reconstruction of the intricate stucco work, has restored the façade to its former finery and made the building as impressive as it was over a century ago.

Financial support for the tenement house at ul. POW 23
Funding for the renovation of the building was obtained by the housing community managing the tenement house. The funds have been earmarked for work on the façade, the renovation of architectural detail and the activities of the conservator. The programme for the renovation of historic townhouses covering this part of the city continues to attract many interested parties, and local communities are increasingly bold in making use of the funding tools available to plan comprehensive and spectacular renovations.
More addresses await renovation
According to the municipality’s announcement, the beginning of 2026 will see the publication of the next list of city-supported properties. It is already known that the metamorphoses of more than a dozen townhouses are planned. Owners and communities will have the opportunity to apply for subsidies amounting to many hundreds of thousands of zlotys, which will allow them to continue the process of improving the aesthetics and standards of use of the historic quarters of Łódź – a city that is among the leaders in terms of the number of tenement houses in Poland.
