The next edition of the Best Public Space of the Silesian Voivodeship 2024 competition has been launched. The list of nominees includes the Eiffel Tower at the ‘Paris’ roundabout in Rybnik. Will it become the new architectural landmark of the voivodeship?
The Eiffel Tower on the “Paris” roundabout was built in 2022. It was erected to honour a part of the Niedobczyce district in Rybnik, which is sometimes referred to as ‘Paris’. The miniature of the original tower is not so small. It is 15 metres high and consists of three thousand steel elements. The structure weighs nearly eight tonnes.
The tower was built on the initiative of local residents. The idea of setting it up was submitted to the Civic Budget in 2021. The project won 1,645 votes from fishermen.
The construction of the structure cost a total of PLN 159,000. The tower has become a landmark for exiting the Racibórz-Pszczyna Regional Road. Thanks to its illumination, it is also highly visible at night.
The ‘Paris’ quarter has thus gained a symbol of the French capital. This is not the only ‘worldly’ part of Rybnik. In the city, we can also find the Mexico or Morocco-Novina district. In turn, housing estates are sometimes informally referred to as “Beijing” and “Manhattan” (Boguszowice Estate).
Will the Eiffel Tower in Rybnik win the Best Public Space in the Silesian Voivodeship 2024 plebiscite? A platform where Internet users can cast their votes was launched on 1 August. One can vote for three projects by giving consecutively: 3, 2 and 1 point. You can vote HERE.
