Expo 2025: Poland Pavilion almost ready

As early as 13 April 2025, the World Expo 2025 will begin in Osaka, with Poland presenting itself under the slogan ‘Poland. Heritage that drives the future’, showing how tradition and the achievements of past generations are becoming the driving force for building a modern economy and an innovative future. We are the first editorial team in Poland to be able to show fragments of the façade of the pavilion.

The Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025 is to be a place combining modern technology with respect for tradition. It is there that the Polish ‘creativity gene’ will be presented in the form of interactive art installations and innovative solutions related to green energy, digital transformation and artificial intelligence. Details of Poland’s participation at the Expo were announced at a press conference held in Warsaw on 13 March 2024.

The Poland Pavilion at Expo 2025 will be a meeting place for culture, technology and innovation that combines tradition and modernity. Poland, known for its rich historical heritage and dynamically developing economy, will present its achievements in areas such as sustainable development, new technologies, science and creativity, informed Magdalena Skarżyńska, Vice-President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency.

The architectural concept of the Poland Pavilion was based on the form of the block, which evokes the wave of Polish creativity spreading beyond the country’s borders. Interactive art installations will allow us to learn about the Polish ‘creativity gene’, passed down through generations, which allows us to act for a better future ,” added Maria Ostrowska, Deputy Director of the Expo Exhibition Department at PAIH.

Country showcase. The Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025

The Polish Pavilion at Expo 2025 was designed by Alicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez of Interplay Architects. The building will have an area of nearly 1,000 square metres. The architects’ duo’s concept is to create a pavilion with rounded walls that radiate from the centre, resembling a spiral. Its design is based on the use of wood, which tightly surrounds the volume. The wooden façade of the pavilion is inspired by the traditional ‘Kigumi Koho’ technique of joining wood . This effect can be seen well in the first photos of the finished building.

From the outset, we knew that the Pavilion’s external form had to be original and original in order to encourage visitors to visit this particular building among the many unusual structures. In addition, the pavilion’s privileged location – situated in an exposed corner – allowed us to create an attractive design seen from different perspectives and in motion, rather than from one main and static view. The starting point was the concert hall: the Japanese love Chopin, and concerts dedicated to his works will be one of the highlights of the programme. We placed it in a central location. We then tried to create a flowing tour path and to organise all the other functions so that they revolve around the geometric heart of the Pavilion. This move not only symbolises the importance of culture, which sets us apart from others, but also with the open and concentric arms of the spiral invites you to enter the “Polish galaxy” zonealicja Kubicka and Borja Martínez explain.

During Expo 2025, Poland will present a number of initiatives to promote the economy, technological innovations and investment. Ambassadors of the programme include:

  • dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski – engineer, scientist and astronaut,
  • Krzysztof Ingarden – architect and member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences,
  • Robert Korzeniowski – four-time Olympic champion in walking,
  • Yuka Ebihara – dancer on the Warsaw ballet stage.

In addition, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency, together with its partners, has prepared a series of business events, such as the Poland-Japan Economic Forum and the Poland-Japan Investment Forum, which will create an ideal space for establishing international relations and promoting the Polish economy on the Japanese market.

Accompanying Events and Cultural Promotion

Expo 2025 also features a rich cultural and educational programme. In cooperation with ministries and marshal offices, Poland will present:

  • regional and thematic weeks. Days of Polish Science and Education, Polish Culture Week, Frederic Chopin Week or Sports and Tourism Week,
  • concerts, exhibitions, workshops and research projects,
  • events in Osaka’s urban spaces from 30 March to 23 October,
  • regular Fryderyk Chopin recitals in the Pavilion, featuring leading artists.

In addition, there will be Polish-Japanese academic projects and international conferences on marine ecology and mental well-being.

Young Ambassadors and Pavilion Staff

The staff of the Poland Pavilion will be taken on by students from Polish universities who, thanks to cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, will enter a 6-month internship programme. Recruitment includes candidates from the Universities of Warsaw, Adam Mickiewicz, Nicolaus Copernicus, Jagiellonian, Gdansk, SWPS and the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, among others. Knowledge of the Japanese language is one of the important criteria.

We are convinced that the adventure of the Expo, meetings with the guests of the Polish Pavilion and involvement in the promotion programmes will be an unforgettable memory and an important experience for the students in the context of their professional path, but above all a reason to be proud of Poland and the presentation of which they are a part, adds Marta Zielińska.
