Flat in a building from the 1950s. It was built in the Old Ochota district of Warsaw.

A flat in a 1950s building in Warsaw’s Old Ochota district was designed by Hania Stylinska of interior architecture studio HAST Design. This 48-square-metre interior, combines vivid colours, tradition and modern solutions. The owner is a young couple who had clear expectations: the interiors were to be full of colour and at the same time contain vintage elements, reflecting the spirit of this historic district. The result is a tribute to the past, while at the same time bringing freshness and warmth to the residents’ everyday lives.

The corridor in this flat, as is often the case in mid-20th century buildings, was characterised by its great height and narrow, long space. Designer Hania Stylinska of HAST Design proposed an unusual solution – painting the ceiling and walls to the height of the cabinets, which visually lowered the room and eliminated the feeling of a ‘tunnel’. Thanks to this simple but effective treatment, the corridor became much cosier, inviting you to explore the interior further.

Despite the small size of the flat, the bedroom managed to find space for a roomy wardrobe with sliding doors. The bed with its rattan and walnut headboard is the focal point of this room, blending in perfectly with the pistachio wall. This is complemented by two dark blue wall lamps, which add a subtle touch of colour to the interior.

The kitchen was particularly important to the clients, as it was to refer to their favourite place – the Hel Peninsula. Studio HAST Design brilliantly captured this inspiration, creating a space that evokes warm holiday memories. The kitchen’s colour scheme is a combination of mustard and muted terracotta, which creates a unique duo that alludes to a sunset over the Baltic Sea. The kitchen peninsula clad in solid oak half-shells adds a natural touch, while the washing machine and dryer cleverly hidden behind a front made of oak half-shells and linen fabric emphasise the attention to detail.

The bathroom is a kind of nod to Italian design, landscapes and architecture. The walls and floor feature fantastic tiles from the Italian Landscape collection from Fioranese, designed in collaboration with architecture studio 23Bassi. The entire colour scheme is in retro tones that perfectly combine modern design with respect for history. To illuminate the bathroom with natural light, a milky glass window was placed above the bathtub, which overlooks the kitchen, introducing an additional element of light and spaciousness.

The living room is where tradition meets modernity. The focal point is a refurbished retro-style table, with Schlapp Möbel chairs, designed by Rainer Schell. This vintage furniture blends perfectly with the green table lamp, creating a space where you can feel the spirit of the past while enjoying the comfort of contemporary solutions.

The interior design of a flat in the Old Ochota district by HAST Design is an example of how in a small space you can create a space full of character, where every detail has its meaning. The colourful, warm interiors with vintage elements not only pay homage to the history of the place, but also bring a touch of magic and sentimental memories into the residents’ everyday lives.
