Flat in a historic tenement house in Kraków’s Kazimierz district.

In the heart of Kraków’s Kazimierz district is a flat that perfectly combines contemporary style with architectural heritage. The flat, located in a historic building, reflects the idea of subtle luxury – elegance without excess, respect for the history of the place and conscious design of the space.

Living area – soft forms and classic craftsmanship

The main part of the suite is the spacious living room. It features a soft sofa in an ecru shade, accompanied by a wooden round table and chairs made of bentwood. It’s a nod to traditional craftsmanship, woven into a modern aesthetic. In the background, you can see the sleek library cabinetry in a shade of graphite, which forms the backdrop for the carefully selected black and white graphics.

Harmony of forms in a flat in a listed building

There is a gentleness and coherence of forms throughout the interior – the curved furniture, arched passageways, splayed walls and rounded glass separating the living room from the bedroom introduce an organic, welcoming atmosphere. It’s a thoughtful decision that brings the space closer to people and emphasises its flowing character.

Unique details that create the identity of the place

Right at the entrance, the attention is drawn to an original console designed with this interior in mind. It is accompanied by a designer lamp from Zieta – with a mirrored surface that serves both a lighting and decorative function. It is a detail that immediately sets the mood for the entire flat.

Classic herringbone in a modern context

The restored wooden parquet floor in a classic herringbone pattern harmonises perfectly with the minimalist interior elements. The contrast between modernity and the historic structure of the building gives the space a unique, timeless character.

Kitchen – noble simplicity and natural materials

Although small, the kitchen impresses with its finish – the worktop and wall have been made of natural stone with greenish veining to break up the cool minimalism. Gold fittings add elegance without disturbing the calm colour palette.

Bathroom – modern lightness in a vintage setting

The aesthetic of the bathroom remains consistent with the rest of the flat: bright colours, golden accents and soft lighting dominate. The natural stone gives the space a refined feel. An interesting solution was the mirror finish of the ceiling, which helped to optically enlarge the low-ceilinged room and create the impression of more space.

Living in a listed building as conscious design

Every element of the interior has been considered – from the colour scheme, ceramics and graphics to the details in the form of fresh flowers. A monochromatic palette of white, beige, grey and black creates an elegant backdrop for the carefully selected accessories.

This flat is an example of how a modern approach to design can coexist with architectural heritage. It proves that a flat in a historic townhouse can be functional, beautiful and full of harmony at the same time.
