Mieszkanie w krakowskiej kamienicy wg. projektu Furora Studio.

Flat in a Krakow tenement house designed by Furora Studio.

The flat in a Krakow tenement, which has been named ‘Alt’ , is a project full of light, reflected in the nooks and crannies of the high angles. Mirrored reflections creating a theatre on the walls, classic cool shades and modern fanciness. The project was created by architects Diana Żurek and Gutek Girk of Furora Studio. The building is located in Kraków, in a beautiful old tenement house. Initially, there were two flats, which proved to be quite a challenge to combine due to the difficult interior layout – but the end result is really beneficial.

The flat is full of classic solutions; despite its contemporary layout and day-night zoning, its axiality and the mutual opening of spaces, which create longitudinal views, are clearly visible.

At the entrance, we are greeted by a spacious and strongly symmetrical corridor, whose ‘gates’ lead to various zones. The most important of these, made of stone, directs our gaze to the main zone, creating a frame for a sophisticated living room.

The living area is saturated with light streaming in through tall windows, and the use of reflective surfaces further supports this effect. The space has been completely opened up by knocking down walls and creating a decorative band that connects the kitchen to the living room. In its other part is a study with a glass door, which has been combined with a mirror – further enhancing the ‘openness of the space’ effect. Blacks are interspersed here with walnut notes and stone features. The classic furniture panels are combined with the smooth surface of the rectangular shapes – giving the whole a contemporary flair. It is a mix of design classics found in an antique shop and modern forms designed by architects.

The open space also includes a bathroom full of subtle patterns and shapes that break the white of the walls. The night zone contains two bedrooms. These are hushed spaces, clad only in small details of plaid and navy blue, with white walls and panelled, clean wardrobe fronts as a backdrop. The headboards, which give the rooms a cosy aura, and the custom-made furniture in warm, sunny wood tones play a big part. One of the bedrooms also features a master bathroom with stronger features on the walls and chocolate walnut interior finishes.

This is a space that permeates on every level. Both through shapes, materials, patterns and forms, but also through the artworks specifically dedicated to it. Classical forms, woodcut motifs and the cool surfaces of the mirror panes – create an endless tale of intertwining.

About the studio:
Furora Studio – Author design studio run by architects Diana Zurek and Gutek Girk. In our studio, we strive to create spaces that are comfortable but not obvious – with a wink. Based on a combination of classic solutions with modern restraint and a touch of playfulness, we create sophisticated mirages. We look for healthy uniqueness and opt for expressive, bold ideas that give interiors a personal touch and a timeless dimension. Our palette is one of art, authenticity and a mix of different architectural styles, which we implement in the smallest details, disregarding trends but the needs and feelings of the Investors. In our projects, we use unusual forms, textures and colours to dress the surfaces and furniture we design. We make sure that each piece of furnishings is unique – without reaching for ready-made solutions, but by delving into the noble decorations and coherent accents of the manufactured objects. The whole becomes a seamless, integral space. You can find out more about the studio here: https://furora.studio
