Mieszkanie w kamienicy na wrocławskim Nadodrzu

Flat in a tenement in Wrocław’s Nadodrze district from KLU STUDIO.

The flat in a tenement in Wrocław’s Nadodrze district, which we have the pleasure of describing today, is an example of how modern style can be efficiently combined with traditions and vintage elements. “In the heart of Wrocław’s Nadodrze district, there is an address that has special meaning for us. In one of the charming tenement houses, we had the pleasure of designing almost all the flats. We took a very individual approach to each one, and in this particular one we are very satisfied with many of the solutions.” – this is where Klaudia Utracik and Paulina Sobczyk of KLU STUDIO describe their latest project.

The architects began their work by adapting the functional layout to the owner’s needs. “By moving some walls, we decided to make changes that introduced a new dynamic to the flat – instead of a large kitchen, a cosy study was created, and the spacious living room gained a functional kitchenette with an island. During the renovation work, we focused on preserving and enhancing the beauty of the historic elements, such as the original floors, door frames and stucco. Our aim was to create a harmonious space that combines tradition with modernity.” – explain the designers

They also made significant changes to the bathroom, allowing for both a bathtub and a shower, while maintaining adequate storage space. The interior colour scheme was based mainly on blue tones, which were juxtaposed with warm red tones in the kitchen and more intense orange accents in the bathroom. Klaudia and Paulina used mosaics in the design, including on the backsplash in the kitchen and on the island, which gave the interior character and clarity.

The joints in contrasting colours further emphasised the details and added variety to the space. The square form motif, which runs through both the kitchen and bathroom, was carefully considered to create a cohesive whole. The Vives tiles used, both those with a subdued pattern and more expressive ones, helped to divide the bathroom into two clearly defined zones.

“We tried to create not just a flat, but a continuation of the history of the place. By combining the old with the new and adapting the space to the lifestyle and needs of the residents, a comfortable place to live was created that reflects the unique character of the owners.” – they conclude.
