The flat is located in the forest district of Gdynia and has recently been given a completely new look. The functional layout has been changed, making the space more responsive to the needs of the residents. The new arrangement was taken care of by the architects of Kowalczyk-Gajda Studio Projektowe – Kasia Millo and Sylwia Kowalczyk-Gajda.
The 80-square-metre space has changed its face. When designing the new space, the architects opted for light and natural materials. White and delicate textures form the basis for further interior elements: natural wood, stone, textiles and graphics. The contrasting motif is deep blue. However, not all interior elements are new. One example is the old floor, which has been scraped out and once again adorns the floor in a natural shade.
The new functional layout involved removing some of the walls. The biggest surprise was the addition of an extra bathroom, which was created in place of the former utility room. The flat gained more storage space, with new wardrobes partly hidden behind mirrored fronts. The walls and doors were covered with oak veneer or wallpaper.
The interior design was prepared for a young family. There is no room to define any style, the designers did not dabble in passing trends. The interior is coherent, harmonious and exudes positive energy.
The living area is bright and well-lit. The seating area consists of a comfortable sofa, a minimalist coffee table and a built-in TV set. Light, simple flower shelves introduce a modern detail. In the dining area, a round modern table is the focal point of the living room, where the whole family spends time.
The Iker chairs in fabric upholstery look great in this combination. It is the carefully selected items that make up the entirety of this interior. The same goes for unusual accessories: vintage-style ceramic and stoneware vases, chamotte dishes, stone mouldings and family heirlooms. The wooden openwork grille forms the background for the dining area, while at the same time becoming a sophisticated detail,” describe the architects.
A novelty is the kitchen peninsula, which symbolically divides the kitchen area from the living room. It performs the practical function of a worktop and at the same time made it possible to hide the built-in furniture. There are more clever solutions. In addition to the new furniture layout, the bedroom has gained a small workspace for the homeowner.
The bathroom also gained new functions. A small space was used to accommodate an extra-large shower, a washing machine and storage space for the laundry, space for cosmetics and all the necessary accessories. The washing machine is also built in with a wooden grid, which provides natural ventilation. Wooden cabinetry and cleverly concealed cupboards keep everything tidy and accommodate all the necessary items.
Finally, it is worth noting the graphics created by the studio’s owner Sylwia Kowalczyk-Gajda. The aesthetics of the graphics are a symbolic reference to the maritime character of Gdynia.
