Flat in Krakow. From the terrace there is a beautiful view of Podgórze

Its interior was designed by Mateusz Niepokój of the noplusp studio. Measuring over 60 square metres, the flat is located in the Podgórze district of Kraków. The location, chosen with a deep sentiment for the right bank of the city and keeping alive the fond childhood memories of one of the clients, gives the space a specific character.

The high floor with access to the terrace, which offers a western view framing the roofs of the neighbouring tenements, is an asset that provides the basis for the arrangement, despite the challenges posed by the irregular lines of the bearing walls and numerous installation shafts. Rather than fighting architectural constraints, the designer decided to make them a source of inspiration – and the volume of the space was enriched with organic curves and custom elements that transformed difficult and boring corners into the flat’s greatest asset.

The power of forms in Krakow

The guiding idea behind the entire arrangement is based on accentuating the unformed course of the walls. The faults, once perceived as an obstacle, have been encased in a new, organic form of arches erected in the drywall system. This concept has been subtly balanced with a palette of natural materials – raw clay, dark oak, metallic shiny steel and stone that resists the passage of time like a sculpture. The result is an interior that is free of fleeting trends, yet extremely full of emotion and sophistication.

Bedroom

The bedroom offers an unusual combination of technology and artistic approach to the space. The stone pre-wall, which conceals the electrical installations and the air-conditioning unit, has been piecemeal cut out to create a decorative recess – a solution that not only beautifies the room but also emphasises its functional character. The focal point of this area is a steel desk, which also acts as a sculptural form, integrated into the minimalist concept of the interior. In addition, the dressing table finished with fluted glass optically enlarges the space, while refracting light and creating dynamic reflections that add a surprising lightness to the interior.

Bathroom

The bathroom is where the boldness of modern forms meets timeless elegance. The shower with its geometric form is juxtaposed with Breccia Sarda marble, creating a contrast between austerity and sophistication. The earthy tones of the stone floor and the natural light that gently smoothes the rounded edges of the shower and basin give the interior a painterly, almost poetic atmosphere. The mirror reflects these subtle nuances, creating a space that is not only utilitarian but also full of artistic expression.

Living area

The focal point of the flat is the living room open to the kitchen – a zone that connects the entire space . The dominant role of the warm, muted microcement provides an exceptional backdrop to the contrasting elements made of dark oak veneer and Taj Machal quartzite. Thoughtful carpentry, winding through the irregular wall faults, seamlessly separates the resting, dining and cooking areas. The cabinetry not only accentuates the shape of the opening bar recess, but also wraps around the elliptical table to then subtly transition into the form of the surrounding kitchen appliances. The ability to fully open the sliding folding patio doors brings additional breath into the interior, integrating it into the terrace space and giving the impression of unlimited space.

The entire arrangement is the result of the work of masters – experts in arches, joinery and stone, who have passionately and precisely transformed every detail of the flat into a unique work of art. Their craftsmanship has ensured that all elements, from the irregular walls to the finest finishing details, work together to create a harmonious whole. Every piece of the interior is a reminder that beauty lies in both perfect technique and a subtle approach to natural forms and materials.
