Flat in the Gdansk Docks. Created for a couple and their cat!

The flat in the Gdansk Docks is a unique project, designed for a couple living permanently abroad who wanted to create their own retreat in the Tricity – including for their cat. Situated in the heart of the Gdansk shipyard, the 78-square-metre interior is a successful combination of comfort, functionality and style.

Remote cooperation and complete trust

The design process started in an unusual way – all meetings were held remotely. The owners only came to Gdańsk after six months to accept the final materials. It was thanks to the trust they placed in the designer that it was possible to create a bold, refined and personalised space – implemented on a turnkey basis.

A flat in Gdansk’s Doki: harmony and detail

Darker wood, light grey and black accents form the basis of the design. All the magic, however, lies in the details – carefully selected accessories and colours. The initial inspiration was subdued, but the owners were soon convinced to go for bolder solutions.

This is how the idea for the tiger wall decoration in the living room was born. The tiger motif became not only a decoration, but also a symbolic element from which an openness to more daring solutions began.

Consistency of form and function

All the furniture fittings – kitchen, island, TV bookcase – were made to order. The openwork form of the bookcase subtly separates the zones in the open-plan living area. The same materials and colours are used consistently in the design, which creates a coherent whole. The floor is finished with a deep-toned wooden parquet to which the veneer fronts and finishing details have been matched.

Colours that emphasise individual style

Although the main palette is subdued, accents in shades of green and terracotta appear in the flat in the Gdansk Docks. The decorative tiles in the bathroom and toilet differ in atmosphere, but complement each other. It is worth paying attention to the details – the lamp above the washbasins, the key shelf or the painting above the sofa – which build up an individual, thoughtful style.

A kitchen with energy and class

The focal point of the kitchen is the Wiscont White granite worktop, which is an eye-catcher and brings energy to the interior, alluding to the tiger pattern in the living room. The stone worktop is juxtaposed with dark fronts and light steel island legs – the whole combines aesthetics with durability and functionality.

Functionality to suit the lifestyle

The flat has been designed with remote working, relaxation and a pet-friendly space in mind. Careful workmanship and the selection of high-quality materials make it an interior ready for the owners’ frequent return to Poland – warm, personal and fully tailored to their needs.

About the studio:
“My name is Zuza Pikiel, I am a qualified interior designer. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk in the Faculty of Architecture and Design. I started gaining professional experience already during my studies – not only in Tricity design studios, but also in Germany – I lived in Düsseldorf for over a year. Since 2013 I have been designing under my own brand – Idea Projekt, where together with my partner Karol Pikiel we combine architecture and interiors. From 2018 to 2023, I ran an interior design studio under the brand P2 Pikiel & Piltz. After more than 10 years of very diverse stylistic experience and having completed more than 300 interior designs – I understand my clients and their needs. I also know what style I find myself best in and I believe that it is our shared sense of aesthetics that should be the first step to a successful collaboration.” – reads https://zuzapikiel.pl/
