The flat at Mieszczańska Street in Wrocław was designed by Joanna Hutna and Dorota Żak, founders of the Ukłon Studio. The latest interior designed by the architects is an example of harmonious cooperation between functionality and cosiness. Located in a new building, it occupies approximately 40 m² and belongs to a couple of owners. The building is located right next to a park, and the view of the greenery is a great asset to the place. A key design consideration was to create a space that is both comfortable and practical.
The focal point of this interior is the elegant oak woodwork, stained in a warm reddish hue. Flowing seamlessly through the flat, it connects the hall, living room and bedroom, introducing a sense of continuity and cohesion. Upon entering the flat, one’s attention is immediately drawn to the veneered wall of the built-in, which adds warmth to the interior while also serving a practical function by providing additional storage space.
The interior is kept in warm colours and natural materials, which gives it a cosy feel. The living room is dominated by a burgundy sofa and an oak bookcase. The wall just behind the sofa, which runs through the living room, dining room and into the kitchen, has been divided by the introduction of modern stucco.
In the kitchen, the darker oak wood harmonises with the beige ceramic tiles. A wooden shelf, on which crockery is displayed, focuses attention, while the fridge and tall cabinets have been hidden in the wall recess. With their white finish, they blend in as part of the wall, adding a light and modern feel to the whole space. A variety of textures have also been incorporated into the design to enhance the interior. The lambskin upholstery of the sofa, the textured headrest of the bed and accessories in the form of vases, candles or a wool rug create a cosy atmosphere.
The bathroom is accented by an orange conglomerate washbasin countertop and a colourful, patterned floor. In the shower and above the toilet, there was space for storing cosmetics and trinkets. The bedroom, with its oak wardrobe and soft green headboard, becomes a place of relaxation, highlighted by powder pink curtains.
Both functionality and aesthetics were a priority in this project. Furniture such as a decorative bookcase in the living room, kitchen built-in, wardrobes, bedside tables and an elegant headrest were designed specifically for the flat. The interior is complemented by carefully selected products from renowned brands: a sofa from Sits, chairs by Normann Copenhagen and a coffee table and shelf above the sofa from Audo Copenhagen. Lighting, such as the pendant lamp from the Margin collection by New Works, gives the space a pleasant feel. In addition, the owners introduced personal touches to the flat, such as books, crockery and paintings, including an original linocut by Joanna Tumiłowicz, which hangs above the table, and a print of a tree trunk on handmade paper by Maja Komorowska, which adorns the bedroom.
About the studio :
Ukłon Studio is an original design studio founded by Joanna Hutna and Dorota Żak. “We have been working together since the beginning of our acquaintance started at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. We work in the areas of interiors, graphics and handicrafts. Based on dialogue, we create pleasant places for everyday life, sensitive to individual needs. We listen, support and advise. We aim to realise projects that gain over time, are simple and refined with attention to detail. When arranging a space, we look for unusual elements, often second-hand, antiques, also in the spirit of reuse. We combine many art disciplines in our work and are open to challenges.” – reads https://uklonstudio.com/
