Fragrant tiles with no visible grout lines? Meet Repetit by Opificio Ceramico

At Cersaie 2025 in Bologna, Opificio Ceramico unveiled a collection that immediately caught the attention of designers and architects. Repetit, designed by Marco Spatti, is no ordinary range of tiles. It is a material that breaks through the traditional limitations of ceramics and opens a whole new chapter in surface design.

No visible grout

Repetit was born out of a fascination with the module and its repetitiveness. The collection’s name combines the Latin repetita (to repeat) and the French petit (small), which aptly captures its essence. Once laid, grouted and coated with resin, the 19.5 × 19.5 cm three-dimensional porcelain stoneware tiles disappear as individual elements. Only tiny protrusions remain visible, creating a uniform, grainy, almost artistic texture.

It is precisely this process that eliminates the biggest problem with ceramics – visible grout lines. In their place, a continuous, cohesive surface emerges, which interacts with light and transforms the character of the interior. Repetit does not merely pretend to be a monolith; it simply becomes one.

The world of textiles was the inspiration for the Repetit collection. I was intrigued by the idea of recreating the visual and tactile experience of a thickly woven fabric on a surface. In this way, the ceramic and the grout became the warp and weft from which these new surfaces were woven, explains the collection’s creator, designer Marco Spatti.

The first collection of tiles that smells

Repetit introduces yet another, completely new dimension to the world of ceramics – scent. Thanks to the use of natural BIOLITH plaster, which forms an integral part of the system, surfaces can be enriched with subtle aromas of lavender, amber or pine with mint. This solution transforms the perception of the interior, adding sensuality and an organic character.

Open to innovation

Repetit tiles are made of glazed porcelain stoneware and are available in three colours: Brick, Pure White and Silver Grey. Once the tiles have been laid, you can apply Mapei’s Kerapoxy grout or Biolith clay (textured) plaster. Grout will give a smoother finish, whilst the plaster creates a more textured surface. The whole surface is then coated with resin, which conceals the tile base and highlights the raised texture. The result is a surface that looks like textured plaster, whilst retaining the durability of ceramic.

Brick Biolith Rust

Biolith clay (textured) plaster is completely natural, regulates humidity and is available in six colours and three fragrance essences. The plaster can be applied over Repetit tiles or directly onto a smooth base coat from Opificio, creating a slightly raw effect on the wall. Biolith plaster is available in six colours (Chalk, Sand, Cream, Ebony, Lava Stone, Rust) and can be combined with three fragrance essences.

A new direction in interior design

Repetit is not just a tile collection. It is a material that redefines the relationship between surface and space. By blurring the boundaries between tile and monolith, introducing scent and creating a fabric-inspired texture, it opens up entirely new possibilities for designers and interior architects. This is certainly an option for those who wish to design more boldly, more sensually and with a greater awareness of the material. Repetit demonstrates that ceramics can be more than just a cladding material; it is a tool that allows you to stand out in the market.
