From brass, wood and bronze. Federico Stefanovich and his sculptural lamps

“Folia” is the name of the collection, which was designed by Federico Stefanovich. The sculptural lamps were handmade and consist of three basic materials: solid wood, brass and bronze.

The collection was inspired by organic and geometric forms in nature. Designer Federico Stefanovich observed the world of plants, their seeds and fungi, whose forms gave shape to the lamps. Each consists of a body symbolising a stem and shades that are like leaves. Each lamp is the result of careful analysis. The designer made many prototypes before achieving the desired effect. The bronze elements were cast using a traditional method in a foundry, the metal was treated and the wooden elements carved using an artisanal technique.

A characteristic feature of the lamps of the ‘Foil’ collection is the concealed light source. It was placed in such a way that the light reflects off the brass surfaces. This design makes the light emitted by the lamp warm, soft and decorative. This thoughtful approach not only increases the functionality of the luminaires, but also enhances their aesthetics. Lamps designed in this way could successfully stand in a contemporary art museum.

The series consists of lamps for various purposes. Among others, there is a floor lamp with a body made of brass or wood. The lamp is tube-shaped and tapers towards the top. On top of this is a diffuser which is not permanently fixed. It can be lifted and moved. Like a leaf decoratively placed on a stem. The table lamp is similar in shape with its shade having two symmetrically spaced arms.

The wall lamp is slightly different. Designer Federico Stefanovich still builds on the form of the lampshade, but positions it vertically so that the light emerges from the edge of the fitting, gently illuminating the area around it. The largest form is the pendant lamp, which consists of four light sources. The collection was created for Ago Projects and is available on the brand’s website.
