The historic townhouse standing at Ułańska 11 in the Lower Town in Gdańsk is preparing for a new era in its history. The building, erected at the end of the 19th century, is the last vestige of former urban development in the area. It will soon undergo a comprehensive renovation that will give it a new shine while preserving its historical character. The renovation work will be carried out as part of the Integrated Territorial Investments programme by Gdanskie Nieruchomości.
Ułańska 11 – modern functions and usable space
The tenement houses 13 council flats, which will be modernised to meet modern housing standards. In addition, taking advantage of the potential of the location, it is planned to adapt part of the building into usable space. Two new commercial units will be created on the ground floor, enlivening the area and introducing additional commercial functions that can serve the residents.
Tenement renovation. What will change?
The comprehensive renovation of the townhouse will include a wide range of modernisation and conservation work. The foundations will be insulated and the building structure will be repaired to ensure its durability for decades to come. All installations – plumbing, electrical and heating – will be replaced, improving the functionality and energy efficiency of the building. The interiors will be refreshed, preserving the historic character of the building.
Protection of architectural heritage
As a building listed in the Municipal Register of Historical Monuments, the tenement requires special care for its architectural heritage. The renovation will be carried out in accordance with the conservation work programme, and will include the conservation and restoration of the polychromes, which are testimony to the artistic craftsmanship of the 19th century. The façade of the building will regain its original colours, restoring its former aesthetics. In the gate passage, the original cobbled floor will be restored, highlighting the atmosphere and historical charm of the site. Preserved wooden elements, such as doors and windows, will be painstakingly restored.
Innovative technologies in the renovated building
As part of the modernisation, a Building Management System (BMS) will be installed in the building. It will allow the ongoing monitoring of energy and utility consumption, which will contribute to savings and a more sustainable use of resources.
Ułańska 11 – renovation schedule
Work is scheduled to begin in March 2025. The renovation of the tenement at Ułańska 11 is a project of particular importance for the Lower Town in Gdańsk. The investment will not only preserve the architectural heritage, but will also contribute to improving the quality of life of the residents and the functionality of the building.
