Gdanskie Nieruchomości has completed a comprehensive revitalisation of the eclectic tenement houses at 39 and 40 Na Stoku Street, restoring them to their former glory. The investment was carried out as part of the ‘Revitalisation of Biskupia Górka and Stare Chełm’ programme, partly financed by EU funds under the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomorskie Voivodeship 2014-2020.
The tenements, erected in the second half of the 19th century, are an integral part of the historic landscape of Gdansk. Both are included in the Communal Register of Historical Monuments as an important element of the architectural heritage of the Biskupia Górka area, where relatively many pre-war buildings have survived. When completed, there will be 16 flats and 2 commercial premises, which will soon be available to future tenants.
The renovation work was carried out in accordance with the conservation work programme, meaning that the buildings were restored to their original splendour. As part of the extensive work, numerous architectural details were restored and reconstructed, preserving their historic character, and new window and door joinery was installed – matching the style of the historic townhouses. Particular attention was paid to the restoration of the historic tiled cooker, which is not only a decorative but also a functional element.

In addition to the work visible to the naked eye, the renovation also included comprehensive modernisation measures inside the buildings. Among other things, structural, insulation, installation and finishing works were carried out. The flats, stairwells and corridors underwent a complete metamorphosis. Modern technologies, such as the Building Management System (BMS), make it possible to monitor energy and utility consumption.
The renovation work lasted from September 2022 to September 2024. The total cost of the investment was more than PLN 13 million, with the support of EU funds and a subsidy from the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego’s Surcharge Fund. The renovation of the tenements at 39 and 40 Na Stoku Street is another step in the process of renewing this part of Gdańsk, contributing to the restoration of the historical character of Biskupia Górka.
Thanks to support from EU funds and local initiatives, it has been possible to preserve and renovate the key architectural elements of this historic part of the city, giving it new functions and attracting residents and businesses.
