Green revolution in the heart of Gdynia. A neglected area by the marina will be turned into a park

An ambitious new investment is being launched in Gdynia that will change the face of a neglected area between the marina and the Council of Europe park. The city, in cooperation with the investor Affiliate Project, has published a project to revitalise the site. A competition was held in mid-September this year, and the winning concept for the new park by the B-C Architekci studio from Gdańsk will mark a new future for this part of the city.

The winning project involves creating a park that will meet the needs of both residents and tourists. The entire area will be divided into three zones: walking, picnic and relaxation. The park will attract new alleys, a cycle path and a striking fountain will be the focal point. The scenic axis that extends through the Council of Europe park to the marina basin has also been retained, opening up a perspective view of the Bay of Gdansk from Linden Avenue.

The designers have taken care of the variety of planting, introducing both native species and evergreen plants that will ensure that the park remains attractive even in the cold months. The new and retained trees will provide shade in the summer, creating a friendly space for relaxing and strolling. The new park has the potential to become a popular meeting place for both Gdynia’s residents and tourists visiting the city. The combination of greenery, open spaces and publicly accessible services is a response to the needs of a modern, developing city.

Although Gdynia has been developing intensively for a century – there is still room for new investments in the very centre. An example of such space is the area around Skwer Kościuszki – a representative avenue leading directly to the sea. A new complex is planned there, also designed by the B-C Architekci studio from Gdańsk. The project, which will be built in the vicinity of the new park, will include a hotel, an aparthotel and a flat section with catering, retail and leisure services. The underground floors will house a spa, swimming pool and parking spaces.

The project was created in accordance with the suggestions of the conservator of historical monuments, preserving the modernist character of Gdynia. The complex will consist of two buildings, differentiated by their colours – a light and a darker one. A characteristic element will be a wavy staircase overlooking the marina, which will complement the public and recreational space, surrounded by greenery.
