The building is located in Canada. It was designed by architects from Quinzhee Architecture. The grey house serves as a centre for people using the nearby climbing wall. Its trump card is its location. The dense forests and mountainous terrain offer brilliant views.
The grey house has an asymmetrical shape. Its angular edges resemble a climbing block. The irregularly spaced openings, on the other hand, are climbing handholds. The colour of the façade, on the other hand, makes the house fit into the stone landscape and looks like a large rock itself. The truncated roof of the building is a response to weather conditions, strong winds and snow.
The building has a residential function. The interior design is distinguished by warm wood tones. A climbing wall is designed on the ground floor for training. A spa area offers rest and relaxation. Interestingly, the kitchen was designed not on the ground floor, but on the ground floor. The dining room is also located there. This is deliberate, because when dining, one can enjoy a better view of the surroundings.
The bedrooms on the ground floor have large glass windows that frame the view of the forest. Similarly, the upstairs bedrooms benefit from plenty of natural light. In addition, a mezzanine floor has been designed above the kitchen to offer further sleeping space. All spaces are clad in wood, creating a harmonious continuity between the indoor and outdoor living areas.
The architectural studio Quinzhee was founded in 2013. In their work, the architects focus on the use of natural materials and Scandinavian minimalism. They design both large volume buildings and small-scale design. A grey house in a Canadian forest exemplifies their sense of aesthetics.
