Contemporary architecture is increasingly aiming for buildings to coexist harmoniously with their natural surroundings. An example of this approach is the modern House 1510 designed by Spanish bureau Nordest arquitectura, whose design is based on the idea of a volume floating on a rock – a contemplative space, while being open to the views and the surrounding garden.
The building integrates perfectly into the landscape, limiting its presence to a simple concrete block. Other structural elements are made of natural stone quarried in the area. As a result, the whole gives the impression of emerging from the ground itself, emphasising the deep connection with the surroundings.
The interaction between the various volumes creates an enclosed, intimate garden, which at the same time protects the householders from the strong winds typical of the region. This green corner is the ideal place to relax, where one can enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and enjoy the swimming pool. A thoughtful sequence of spaces connects the exterior elements of the house with the interior, creating a coherent, seamless whole.
The entrance to the house is via a staircase carved into the rock, which adds a unique character to the place. The first level of the building, which houses the bedrooms, provides a solid base for the main, floating volume. From this level, an internal staircase leads to the main level of the house, where the heart of the entire structure is located.
The main level of the house is divided into two sections. The first is a room open to the courtyard, providing a sense of closeness to nature. The second part is a spacious, open-plan living space that, thanks to the glass walls, combines a view of the sea with a view of the garden. The transparency of this space makes the boundaries between indoors and outdoors blur, and residents can enjoy the beautiful views regardless of which part of the house they are in.
The design of this house is an excellent example of modern architecture that combines aesthetics with functionality, creating a space for contemplation and relaxation that is fully integrated into the surrounding landscape.
