A well-designed kitchen garden adorns any building. The owner of a single-family house in a picturesque village near Witowy Raj knows this well. A garden was designed around the building that takes advantage of the natural unevenness of the terrain to create a cascading foundation that drowns in greenery. The garden design was created at Eklekt Atelier.
The Eklekt Atelier studio is made up of a team of experienced architects who specialise in green design. One of their latest projects is a backyard garden on a plot overlooking the hills. The designers took advantage of the nearby landscape and designed a green space that is in perfect harmony with the nearby nature.
The garden was designed for a family of four. The investors wanted it not only to look nice, but to become a place for rest, relaxation and integration. Therefore, in addition to the greenery, an infrastructure has been created that is conducive to afternoon coffee in the fresh air or evening parties with loved ones.
The investors are very open-minded and courageous people who listened carefully to our suggestions and trusted us with the realisation of both the garden and the interior of the house. Thanks to their flexibility and willingness to cooperate, we were able to design a space that combines functionality, modernity and beauty, ” says architect Przemysław Cepielik.
Preparing the project was not so easy. The house that the architects found stood at the top of a steep and challenging plot, but at the same time offered a beautiful view of the countryside and the surrounding hills.
I imagined that the garden could have an equally beautiful view, drawing energy from the open mountain space. Thanks to the lack of immediate neighbours, we were assured that no one would obstruct the landscape as long as we created a flat space at the usable level of the house,” he adds.
The architects explored several options. In the end, they decided to level the terrain to the ground level and, by strongly sloping the outer contour of the plot, they ensured that the householders had a sense of privacy. From the perspective of the access road, they are protected from prying eyes. The two retaining walls, which seem to be a natural part of the site, are attractive. On top of them rests an outcrop, which has become the heart of the garden.
The backyard garden has been filled with modern architecture and greenery and divided into several functional zones. A highlight is the relaxation zone by the pool, where one can spend time on sun loungers and admire the green landscape in the distance. Social entertaining is possible in another zone with a gazebo and outdoor kitchen. The last is the illuminated entrance area, which already sets a unique atmosphere from the entrance and announces the play of greenery in the depths of the garden.

The designers wanted a natural effect, so they chose greenery that is characteristic of the region. They introduced coniferous shrubs and all-season plants that fit harmoniously into the surroundings of the mountain landscape. Time-saving and convenient solutions are provided by the use of low-maintenance species such as junipers, boxwoods, hydrangeas and lavender. The flowerbeds are complemented by ornamental grasses, which add dynamism and gentle movement to the arrangement. This selection of vegetation not only emphasises the natural character of the garden, but also ensures that it looks beautiful all year round.
