Horses will no longer reach Morskie Oko. Transport by carts will be shorter

The changes were announced by Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Henning-Kloska. The signed agreement provides for a new way of getting to the Morskie Oko Lake. Those wishing to do so will be able to cover part of the route using horse-drawn transport and then change to electric buses.

After months of difficult talks, we have reached an agreement to change the transport formula on the way to the Morskie Oko Lake! – reads the published announcement on the ministry’s x.com profile.

Instead of the current seven kilometres one way, the horses will travel a shortened route of 2.5 kilometres in length. Using horse-drawn carts, it will be possible to travel from Palenica Białczańska to Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza. Further parts of the route will be covered by small electric buses. The load on the horse-drawn carriages will also be “significantly reduced”.

The signed agreement is a landmark decision, as no such solution had been reached before. The changes are due to take effect from 2026, but it is possible that the new mode of transport could be used as early as this year.

The use of electric buses is the aftermath of cases where horses were too exhausted to pull carts in hot weather. Activists demanded that this type of transport be abandoned altogether. Soon horse-drawn carriages will be running, but over a shorter route and on less sloping terrain.

The four electric buses that will carry tourists to Morskie Oko cost more than PLN 3 million. Their purchase was financed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment.
