How to arrange a flat with a slanted roof? An example of an interior in Warsaw

Functional interior design in the attic is quite a challenge. A flat with slants was designed by Aleksandra Dąbrówka of GOOD VIBES Interiors. How did she manage to reconcile her needs with the limitations she encountered here?

The flat is located in the Old Żoliborz district of Warsaw, has 67 square metres and was purchased 18 years ago. When designing its new interior, the architect used elements of Scandinavian and Japanese styles. In addition to the slanted ceilings, the purpose of the interior was a challenge. It is a rental flat, so the design had to be as versatile as possible in order to accommodate both a young family and a single person.

Another difficulty was the layout of the flat. It is designed in the shape of a triangle. It consists of a long and dark corridor, a bathroom, a bedroom and a living room with a kitchenette.

The designer opted for neutral colours and natural materials. When arranging the space, she wanted to create a place that would be a refuge for good, peaceful living.

The flat overlooks a bustling street. On the other hand, the neighbourhood is full of greenery and places to relax – I wanted this place to be a place to return to for blissful tranquillity and a smile,’ she explains.

The premises are 18 years old, and what you see in the photos is the result of renovation work. As part of the new fit-out, the floor was decorated with long vinyl panels, which enhanced the open space while providing easy use. However, the brown stone worktops were retained and ‘blended’ into the solids of the bathroom and kitchen units by replacing the fronts, giving them a more modern feel.

The tiles in the bathroom were also left in place and covered with micro-cement. This gave the small space a modern face.
