How to furnish a bedsit? This one in Żoliborz is only 30 sq m in size.

It is small, but provides everything necessary for living. An example of how to design a studio apartment is a 30 sq m space in the Żoliborz district of Warsaw. The interior was designed by Katarzyna Leszczyńska, who runs the Leszczyńska Studio.

The investor had clear expectations of her premises. She wanted a separate bedroom, a fully-fledged kitchen and a place to work remotely. The flat forms one whole, but by putting up a wall in the central part of the flat and a linen curtain, it is possible to separate two autonomous zones, a private one and a daytime one. During the day, when the curtain is drawn open, the bedroom remains open and enlarges the living space, while in the evening we can draw the curtain and create an intimate zone for relaxation. The bed area also has space for a full-size work desk, which was one of the key elements of the design. This desk plays first fiddle here and is a unique space in the flat. The red-painted corner unit is the hallmark of the flat, breaking up the grey and white colour scheme and adding an original touch.

Another interesting visual effect in the bedroom is the large round mirror above the bed, which enlarges the space by multiplying the living room. This successful treatment is repeated with the mirrored wardrobe fronts.

In the living area, the cabinet under the TV with its rounded corners attracts attention. It was custom-made and painted in a red colour. Also noteworthy are wall lamps by the Polish brand ByLight, hung symmetrically over the sofa, and a hanging lamp by the Danish brand Hubsch. A table with a black oak top and black chairs with a rattan seat complete the look.

This flat is the quintessence of simplicity and minimalism. The investor was keen for the flat to be timeless and universal, but at the same time to have an original character and to be unconventional. The starting point was natural materials and a muted colour scheme. The designer based the base on grey-beige and white colours, linen fabrics and natural oak flooring. This was joined by subtle terrazzo, which was used in the bathroom, corridor and kitchen worktop. The subdued whole is broken by a red colour, which was introduced at the designer’s suggestion. This bold colour created a unique interior and is now its hallmark.
