Huge openwork lace. The White House in Łódź shows the first fragments of the facade

Biała Kamienica is being developed by YUNIVERSAL Development, while the design of the building was made by architect Robert Sobański of the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. The building is being constructed on a plot at the junction of Zachodnia and Więckowskiego Streets, and its façade is beginning to take its final shape. Openwork elements reminiscent of large lace and a fragment of one of the façades have emerged from under the scaffolding.

The building is being erected on a section of Zachodnia Street, whose original character was significantly altered in the 1960s when the widening of the thoroughfare necessitated the demolition of the facades of the existing townhouses there. As a result of these actions, outbuildings were exposed, which had become increasingly degraded over the years. The White Tenement under construction will offer 69 high-standard flats and service spaces located on the ground floor of the building. In addition, 43 parking spaces are planned at level zero and -1. The building is located in the vicinity of the junction of Zachodnia and Więckowskiego Streets, perfectly complementing the degraded urban fabric.

The body of the seven-storey building has been adapted to the historical frontage, taking into account the bay window and arcades in the corner. The main entrance is located at the junction of Zachodnia and Więckowskiego Streets, with further entrances located on the southern and northern sides of the building, providing access to the residential and commercial units. On the top floor, the architect has designed a common viewing terrace. The architecture of the building refers to the 19th century metropolitan style. The designer, Robert Sobański, emphasises the inspiration from the city’s history:

“The history of this place is simply the history of Łódź, which is an extremely architecturally diverse city. Being in Łódź, it would be a sin not to draw on this richness,” says architect Robert Sobański about his inspirations.

The design of the Biała Kamienica (White House) is distinguished by an elegant, bright façade decorated with numerous details that allude to the traditional tenement houses. Particularly striking are the circular elements in the corner part of the building, reminiscent of lace, which gives the project its unique character. It is a bold concept, the result of which has attracted much interest.

The cornerstone for the construction of the White House was laid in 2021. Construction work began two years later, starting with the excavation of a deep trench to create an underground garage hall for future residents. On this solid base, the building was erected, reaching its shell-closed state in April 2024. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the autumn of this year.
