Its interior was designed by Barbara Łaźniewska and Maciek Tarchalski of the INDOOR studio. The flat is located in the attic of a tenement house on Foksal Street. It is a bright space that has been decorated with modern design.
The tenement in which the flat is located was built in the 19th century. The space adapted by the developer during the revitalisation and extension of the building turned out to be very unusual, far from the imagined interiors in old tenements.
The complicated floor plan, bevels, large variety of windows – all this looked interesting, but was also quite a design challenge, the architects admit.
The owners dreamt of a bright interior with an open-plan living space and a separate sleeping and utility area.
From the very beginning, we knew that we would want to maximise the light in the space, using skylights in the hall and an opening onto the roof, where the terrace is located,” add the designers.
The architects turned the initial disadvantage into an advantage. The skylights are finished with mirrors and wavy steel, giving the impression of opening up to the sky from the entrance. Light also runs freely down the staircase. It is a lightweight structure that is decorated with perforated steel. Like lace, the metal filters the sunlight, illuminating the focal point of the flat. The round table with expressive Bold Chair chairs corresponds here with the painting by Paweł Wąsowski.
In the complex layout of the flat, with its tangle of haunches and nooks, we opted for simplicity and charter. We also used contrast in colours, materials and forms. In the bright space, the cubic forms of the island and simple kitchen furniture, finished in stone, wood and ceramics, are firmly cut out, ” explain the architects.
The living room is located just below the haunches. The angular finish of the walls has been broken up with soft furniture forms and structured fabrics. Energising elements are the furniture with expressive colours. The bedroom and night area is an oasis of calm in warm linen and walnut colours.
The attic flat of the townhouse has a total of 140 square metres.
