A few days ago we published the project that won third place in the competition (see HERE). Now we describe the concept that won the competition organised by SARP. The new descent to the “Dubai Beach” in Jarosławiec will be built on the basis of the project, which was created in the studio RESTUDIO Jacaszek Architekci.
The concept proposed by RESTUDIO Jacaszek Architekci respectfully refers to nature. This was appreciated by the members of the competition jury, who awarded the prize for: the sensitive integration of architecture into the landscape. In the authors’ proposal, the entrance to the beach in the area of Seaside Street is an integral part of the village’s public space. A multifunctional entrance plaza linked to the viewing terrace and the descent to the beach can become its new attraction. The jury considered the proposal to shape the descent in the form of ramps integrated with stairs and viewing platforms to be appropriate, ensuring their joint accessibility for all user groups, including those with disabilities, the elderly, children and parents with prams. This design of the first walkways, together with the promenade and the planned addition of a descent in the area of the Rose of Winds square, provides a convenient connection between the village and its beaches without the need for mechanical devices. The proposed architectural and landscape solutions, also in the area of small architecture, point the way to a new quality of public spaces of Jarosławiec.
The winning project involves the construction of a viewing platform with a glass balustrade from which the coastline can be admired. The promenade, which winds along the beach, is connected to the cliff and offers walkers the opportunity to commune with nature. The structure will be built next to the ‘Dubai beach’, which was created by carrying sand from the seabed. It also includes the construction of huge arms that extend 180m out to sea. The installation is intended to protect the cliff from erosion and create an attractive leisure area.
The artificial beach is popular with tourists. With a surface area of five hectares, it is large enough to accommodate many sunbathers. When designing the descent to the beach, the architects wanted to refer to the nearby lighthouse. The latter is a characteristic element of Jarosławiec’s landscape. The designers decided to design a public space that does not shout in form, is modest and respectfully refers to what is most important here – the natural cliff, which is the highest point of this part of Pomerania.
The concept is devoid of mechanical elements. Instead of a lift, a gentle, zigzagging descent has been designed, so the structure can be used without restrictions. The architects have also designed a traditional staircase. Those who want to get to the beach even faster will be able to use… a slide!
The viewing platform at the top has two levels. The upper terrace can be accessed directly from street level, and a small square has been designed on the lower terrace where cultural events can be held. On the lower level, the architects have also designed toilets and technical rooms.
