Its design was created at Transparent in Sweden. The Brutalist Speaker is a speaker created for aesthetes who appreciate high-quality sound and original design. Its creators were inspired by Brutalist architecture and large concrete structures.
Transparent’s portfolio includes many loudspeakers with a minimalist form. The brand is famous, for example, for devices whose surface is mostly transparent. The embedded components inside the device are visible and sculpturally exposed. A new design is the Brutalist Speaker, which pays homage to the Brutalism that originated in the UK.
‘It’s exciting that we can bring this legendary architectural style into people’s homes and bring the worlds of architecture and design closer together,’ says Per Brickstad, creative director of Transparent.
The speaker is 59 cm high and weighs 12 kg. It is therefore quite a large device, so placed in a room it will adorn the interior. The speaker is made of 70 per cent recycled aluminium. Its unique form is not only eye-catching, but also achieves high-quality sound. The two 3-inch tweeters are positioned at a 90-degree angle. Placed in a corner, they use acoustic reflections from the walls to create an attractive ‘soundscape’. The impression is enhanced by the bass speaker.
The unit can be combined with others to create a wireless stereo or multi-room speaker system. Its angular form is intriguing. The impression of monumentality is heightened by the navigation panel with three buttons. The aesthetics of this part of the design may resemble the design of space vehicles known from science fiction films.
The loudspeaker is available in black and silver. Its price as quoted by the manufacturer is € 3 800.
