Inspired by the film Poor Creatures. Flat designed by Kristina Busko

The flat designed by Kristina Busko is located in Spain. Realised on the Costa Blanca, the project is inspired by the set design from the famous film Poor Creatures. The designed space is like a theatrical stage, where the classic is combined with futuristic forms, and at the same time is a place to live.

The final look of the flat was influenced by trips the architect took to Amsterdam and The Hague. There she was able to see Rembrandt’s paintings and analyse their complexity. She also discovered the genius of still life by Joachim Beuckelaer or Jan Baptist Xaverego.

After returning from Holland, I couldn’t stop thinking about Dutch painting from the 16th and 17th centuries, which is why I wanted a marriage of the classical and the contemporary, ” admits the designer.

Living with art

There are no random forms in the designed flat. The designer filled the space with art. Part of the collection comes from the Soca Art gallery, which is run by her friend Carlos Soler. It was from him that she received the Mexican masks from the 20th century visible in the bedroom on the cabinet or the sculptures decorating the kitchen. Chinese vases from the 19th century are also an important element.

The designed premises have a standard height. Nevertheless, Kristina Busko decided to decorate the interior with 27 cm high stucco, which seems to enlarge the space. In the living area, you will find a sofa created in collaboration with Portuguese manufacturer Atelier M. The painter’s rug is a Moooi object, and a second rug by this Dutch brand is in the bedroom.

Polish design in Spain

Interestingly, Polish design has also found its way into this Spanish space. These include sculptures by Zieta Studio and chairs by Mati Sipiora. The hallway featured a work by the Polish painter of the younger generation Nicole Szmidt. The work was placed on a wheel, which was additionally illuminated with a dimming option. This creates an amazing perspective. The classic-style kitchen, on the other hand, is decorated with Spanish stone and gold-plated handles.

Next to the roller blind – designed together with Mark Chumico from Wrocław – is my painting “Words are powerful” painted in Biar on the terrace – the place where my studio will soon be built, the author adds.

The private area is a bedroom with quilted beds. The designer admits that she had to think carefully about reaching for beds in the glamour aesthetic, but ultimately decided to use them. In the master bedroom, one can admire paintings by Italian artist Sergio Florentini and again by Polish painter Nicole. In total, the flat designed by Kristina Busko is decorated with three paintings by this painter. The result is a fabulous setting that is a fully-fledged place to live.
