Interior designer’s flat. Julia Holoś designed it for herself!

The flat of interior designer Julia Hołoś is an example of how the saying about the cobbler and his torn shoes does not always apply. Although Julia designs interiors for others on a daily basis, it was in her own four corners that she was able to spread her wings. Julia Hołoś, an interior designer from Wrocław, decided to create a place that fully reflects her personality. Instead of a typical interior, she opted for a space full of expression, contrasts and memories – all on just 46 square metres.

A kaleidoscope of moods – a flat that is alive

The designer describes her interior as changeable and dynamic. “It’s a space that changes like a kaleidoscope. I like the interior to be vibrant and have an ephemeral feel to it,” she says with a smile. Depending on the light, the time of day or the angle of view, the rooms take on different tones – once they are warm and cosy, other times more geometric and austere.

Interior designer’s flat full of stylish contrasts

The dominant style of the arrangement is the author’s eclecticism, in which inspirations of modernism, retro style and a bit of post-modern play with form intermingle. The interior is filled with unusual furniture and accessories – from contemporary design, through vintage pieces found at flea markets, to family heirlooms and small works of art scattered around the corners of the flat.

The space is not afraid of colours, originality and surprising combinations – just like its owner.

The detail matters – a story in every object

Interior elements carry personal associations. The pink tiles in the bathroom are reminiscent of childhood memories – of my grandmother’s pastel-coloured kitchen – but here they are juxtaposed with modern black fittings and graphic grouting. In the bedroom, the juxtaposition of the powder-blue ceiling and the dark green bed creates a stark but harmonious contrast. Even the tables resemble cartoon sculptures – slightly absurd, but functional. “I like things to have a bit of humour and strangeness in them. Not everything has to be deadly serious – I’m not like that” – emphasises the designer.

Kitchen and functionality – the heart of the interior designer’s flat

The kitchen with its pistachio fronts and black and white floor is a space that has been thought through in terms of function and aesthetics. Next to it, life goes on with a natural rhythm. When designing the blue wardrobe, Julia Hołoś created an element that fulfils many roles at once – from a pantry to a wardrobe for clothes and shoes. At the same time, it separates the entrance area from the kitchen and living area, and provides an aesthetically pleasing entrance to the flat.

Authentic furniture and a personal touch

She designed and made some of the furnishings herself – such as the aubergine-coloured wooden table with turned legs or the industrial RTV cabinet in stainless steel. Each element of the interior has been carefully selected to form a coherent but unobvious whole.

A space that unfolds

This interior designer’s flat is at once bold and subtle, dynamic and yet full of harmony. The designer herself admits that she treats it like a process – a place that will evolve over time, just as people change.
