The interior of a flat in Sopot was designed by architects from Pracownia 111. It is a new flat located on the ground floor of an intimate multi-family building with an attractive view of greenery. The neighbourhood of the forest influenced the interior design, which seems to correspond with nature.
The flat was designed for a married couple and children. The family spends a large part of their lives in the countryside, walking, horse riding… Being close to nature is in their blood. Initially, the architects had to work with the existing layout, which appeared to be optimal. The clear division between parents and children on two separate poles made the work easier. The flat has three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, two bathrooms and a guest toilet. However, the designers had a different idea for the interior. They drew up a plan for changes and there was not much left of the existing layout. The plan to quickly furnish the finished rooms turned into a plan to extensively remodel the entire flat.
The architects’ main idea was to create a space that gives a sense of flow. Without dividing the interior into cramped passageways and dividing with closed doors.
The interior was to be elegant, calm and full of air, soothing with the harmony of colours and materials, orderly and… more functional than before the changes, explain the authors of the project.
Their idea was to fill an area of 100 square metres with wooden ‘caskets’ with hidden functions – bathroom, laundry, kitchen and storage room. In this way, the flat will not be perceived as a sum of rooms, but as a spacious, continuous and unified space.
The desired atmosphere was achieved with the right materials. The investor loves Sopot and the green surroundings. Such an atmosphere was to be present in this space, but without obvious solutions such as blue paint on the walls. The atmosphere is therefore created by details such as the fine, colourful aggregate in the concrete floor, the grain visible in the ash blocks, the softness of the curtains and textiles.
Throughout the flat there is also a colour accent with a fashionable name today: cotto – characteristic of the brick and tile used in the traditional architecture of the region. Cotto can be found in the details of the lamps, the glass doors, the free-standing wall-sculpture, the bathroom fittings, the lining of the children’s room doors and a few other elements, the architects add.
In this way, Studio 111 has designed a visually attractive space that is fully functional. The proposed colours, materials and furnishing elements will still look good even many years from now. The architects designed most of the furniture elements themselves, from the handles in the wardrobes, to the bedside tables, shelves, a hanging desk, a bookcase, a bench with a vase hole, and air vent grilles.

The studio about itself:
Studio 111 is an architectural brand, consistently developed by three generations of architects. Our aim: to work on ambitious and well-considered architecture. We do not shy away from the avant-garde and bold composition – but we do not participate in the sponsored degradation of space. Architecture is about implementation, not visualisation. The strength of our team is the combination of youthful creativity, essential in conceptual work, with experience, giving the project real potential.
