Its interior was designed by architects from Hasik Design Studio. The flat is located in a post-war tenement house in the Old Mokotów district of Warsaw. It is a 45-square-metre space in which we can find elements alluding to the aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s.
Flats in tenements have many advantages. One of the most important is the height of the rooms, which in this case is 3 m. The owner of the flat is Florian, who had already rented the property but decided to buy it years later. Florian travels a lot and brings back furnishings from all over the world, which, exposed, accompany him every day. One example is the carpet in the living room, which he brought back from Iran.
The arrangement of the flat was preceded by a general renovation. The walls between the living room and kitchen and between the corridor and the living room were demolished. However, the original beech parquet from the early 1950s was retained. Where walls were demolished, the parquet was supplemented with other parquet that had been obtained. Thanks to the fact that the acquired parquet has the same width of staves and comes from the same years, even after sanding there is little difference in colour. The parquet was finished with a tinted oil-wax.
The interior is dominated by light-coloured walls, which makes the flat look quite spacious. Only at the entrance was a calm navy blue decided upon. Interestingly, the architects found this colour on the old plasterwork during the excavations. The bathroom is decorated in a light and calm natural marble – white Carrara. It is enlivened by a ceiling in intense yellow. Initially a rather eccentric colour, it perfectly complemented the Bauhaus colour scheme of red heating installations and navy blue at the entrance. The bathroom also features a corner skylight with fluted glass, allowing some daylight to enter the room.
The Bauhaus colour scheme also appears in accents such as the heating installations. Pipes and radiators were painted in contrasting red. These colours became the background for the sophisticated furniture. Note the wall-mounted bookcase and TV cabinet in raw aluminium designed by Hasik Design Studio. The studio’s design also includes a marble coffee table. The interior is also decorated with a leather sofa with chrome elements. Its design for Ikea was done by Johann Bertil.
The bedroom is decorated with a bed with an upholstered headboard and an auxiliary table made of aluminium (designed by Hasik Design Studio). There is also a vintage cabinet next to the bed. The room is completed by the Aurora lamp (Hasik Design Studio).
