It has 50 sq m. This is how they designed a flat in Świebodzin

Here original form meets mid-century modern spirit. The 50 sq m flat is located in Świebodzin. Its interior was designed by Katarzyna Najdek and Aleksandra Frankowska of the SKANDAL studio. The resulting interior attracts the eye with colourful solutions at every turn.

The central idea was a contrast between austere simplicity and softly expressive detail. Restrained compositions dominate here, which gain character from the spicy veneer and rounded, spherical shapes. The veneer acts as a story here, giving the smooth planes some of the frenzy of the Memphis Group, while also being an elegant texture. The round forms soften the corners of the flat and introduce a visual rhythm that guides the eye through the interior zones.

Kitchen a meeting place

The kitchen is the central act of the arrangement. Furniture fronts with a wood grain inspired by the aesthetics of the 1960s take over as a background with a strong identity. The blue granite worktop counterpoints the warmth of the veneer and adds a cool, austere elegance to the interior. Here, the Tulip chairs designed by Eero Saarinen are both a utilitarian piece of furniture and a style icon. Their single, streamlined base and sculptural seat create a point of tension between modernist sophistication and the cosiness of the space.

Colour is key

The bedroom and bathroom operate with a distinct, energetic palette. The shades of orange and red are not mere accents, but a conscious design move that delineates the functional and emotional boundaries of the individual interiors. In this part of the flat, colour acts as a narrator and mood catalyst, introducing warmth, intensity and unexpected dynamism. Each room thus gains its own personality, while remaining part of a cohesive whole. Electrolux AbsoluteCare dryers in Swedish design fit perfectly in this space, combining functionality with elegant aesthetics, harmonising with the energetic interior palette and adding a modern touch to the bathroom.

The perfect balance

SKANDAL studio’s design maintains a balance between aesthetics and everyday usability. Materials and forms have been chosen so that the flat appears more spacious than its square footage indicates. A clever play of contrasts and smooth transitions between zones create an interior that is both complex and friendly. The flat functions like a well-composed piece. In the SKANDAL project, the 50 square metre studio is transformed into a stage with a clear narrative flair. It is an interior that speaks a simple but sensual language of form and colour, leaving a lasting impression of consistent vision and intuitive elegance.

About the studio:

SKANDAL studio was born out of a desire to take a bold approach to contemporary interior design. It was founded in 2022 to redefine the way we see space – not just as a place where we live or work, but as an integral part of our lives. – We believe that a well-designed interior should be a reflection of life itself. That is why we take care to provide a thorough understanding of technical, ergonomic and artistic issues. We are convinced that the work of interior designers is not only the design process, but also the story of harmony between form and function, which inspires both our clients and ourselves – say Katarzyna Najdek and Aleksandra Frankowska from SKANDAL studio.
