Stepping through the threshold of the 66-square-metre flat, one immediately feels the design intention: to create a space that performs everyday functions and at the same time becomes a stage for living. The project by Hanna Pietras Architects is an example of contemporary elegance built from simple, timeless elements – wood, glazing and the conscious use of colour – which together create an atmosphere of calm and order.
The living area combines the kitchen, dining area and seating area into one seamless composition, where the boundaries are not defined by walls, but by materials, colours and details. Natural, warm wood on the floor ties the layout together, the white of the walls introduces a neutral calm, and stronger accents give the interior a rhythm.
I wanted the space not to enclose the residents, but to envelop them ,” says Hanna Pietras. –Therefore, instead of closing off zones, I opted for an open layout, where functions are separated not by walls, but by materials, colours and details.
Light in the interior
The study is separated by a glass wall in a white frame – an operation which simultaneously maintains the optical openness and ensures intimacy. The glazing allows light deeper into the living area, emphasising the lightness of the arrangement and treating the glass as a medium for linking functions rather than as a barrier. In this way, the interior retains its fluidity and the work in the home office does not disrupt the communal rhythm of the living area.
The power of colour
The theme of green appears consistently: the kitchen island in a deep, bottle shade acts as an emotional focal point of the interior, contrasting with the bright, minimalist fronts. “Green always has a soothing effect on me. I wanted it to be present in this interior in a distinct but natural way“, the designer’s words explain why this colour runs throughout the functional programme. In the bathroom, the green tiles next to the bathtub and the darker tiles in the shower area create an intimate, sensual setting in which materials and colour interact with practicality.

Bedroom with a calm backdrop
The bedroom has been designed as a rest area with a bright pastel base and one strong artistic accent. A pastel wall in a shade of blue and white furniture build a neutral background against which a colourful painting becomes a focal point, giving the space an individual character. “The bedroom was intended to be a place of rest, but also an expression of the owners’ personality. That is why a stronger artistic accent appeared here,” explains the architect.
Details and art
Every element – the texture of the tiles, the finish of the island, the frames of the glazing – has a specific role in the composition. The design treats the detail not as an ornament but as a communication tool: they give the 66 square metres structure and depth and make the flat not just a functional collection of furniture, but a thoughtful environment for everyday use. “The interior is meant to serve people. I wanted every metre of this flat to respond to their needs, but also to give them the joy of everyday use.” – Hanna Pietras concludes.
