It has a simple form. A modern house in Poznań.

In the eastern part of Poznań, in the vicinity of the former Mycielski brewery, a single-family house designed for a private investor – a family with two children – was built in 2025. This project subtly combines contemporary simplicity with respect for the location, while responding to the challenges of dense development and spatial constraints characteristic of this part of the city. The building was designed by Marcin Lewandowicz’s ENDE studio.

The plot, although challenging, turned out to have a unique advantage: old acacia trees, which became one of the main points of reference for the entire concept. The proximity of the fence walls and neighbouring buildings forced the structure to be moved northwards, which, on the one hand, allowed for a spacious garden area to be created and, on the other, created a kind of narrow, almost fortress-like passage leading to the entrance. This deliberate measure gave the building an unconventional character.

The finishing materials were inspired by the nearby buildings of the former brewhouse and the brewery itself. Instead of classic red brick, the investors chose light beige-grey cladding tiles, which, in combination with white plaster, create a calm, elegant composition. It is complemented by a light grey roof and colour-coordinated window frames. The whole creates an atmosphere of lightness and harmony, while emphasising the contemporary character of the house.

Although compact, the building hides several spatial surprises. The covered terrace opens onto the garden, the small patio becomes a place for a single tree with a contemplative character, and the undercut at the entrance adds dynamism and invites you inside.

The characteristic protruding garage, whose wall has been slightly bent, is a response to the precisely defined building line. Dividing the roof into smaller sections with varying angles of inclination allowed the ridge to be lowered and avoided the impression of excessive dominance over the minimalist form.

It is worth paying attention to the details – simple balustrades, a carefully designed brick cladding layout and a consistent colour scheme. All these elements contribute to the coherent, bright atmosphere that the investors wanted to achieve both outside and inside.

The functional layout of the house is a natural extension of this idea. The open-plan kitchen, high living room and mezzanine create a feeling of spaciousness and freedom. The southern opening onto the garden fills the interior with light and blurs the boundary between the house and the greenery. It is a space designed with everyday comfort in mind, but also for moments of tranquillity and spending time together.
