It is 74 square metres. We take a look inside a flat in Warsaw.

The design of a 74-square-metre flat in Warsaw began with specifics. The owners wanted an interior that was artistic, timeless, and yet unique enough to reflect their sensibilities. The key was to create an atmosphere that combines artistic character with functionality, and to find a place for their favourite reproductions of paintings – not as accessories, but as integral elements of the composition. The interior design was carried out by architects from the Lessness studio.

The entire project is based on clear divisions and a deliberately chosen colour palette that organises the space without detracting from its softness. The interior draws on the classics, but does not fall into literalism – it creates its own language, based on subtle references and the nobility of materials. It is this balance between form and function that makes the flat not just an aesthetic composition, but a space that lives and responds to the needs of its inhabitants.

In the living area, the kitchen, dining room and lounge merge to create a harmonious layout. There are many design stars in this space. One of them is a lamp by Bordallo Pinheiro, decorated with ceramic cabbage leaves. The walnut veneer finish, enriched with handcrafted details, harmonises with the quartzite countertops with distinctive veining. The round, olive-coloured table becomes the centre of daily gatherings, and the chairs with woven backs introduce a sense of lightness. A large bookcase organises the space, giving it an intellectual tone, while sculptural details add softness and homely warmth to the interior.

Materials that create the atmosphere

The bathroom was designed as a conscious counterpoint to the subdued living area. Burgundy tiles in the shower area are juxtaposed with light-coloured walls and ceiling, creating a distinctive and elegant effect. The geometric floor brings order to the composition, while the portal-like passage to the shower adds architectural depth to the space, softening the intensity of the colours.

The bedroom is dominated by calming tones, creating an atmosphere conducive to rest. Semi-transparent doors in wooden frames lead to an interior where the bed with a knotty headboard plays a central role. A characteristic detail running around the perimeter of the furniture emphasises its handcrafted character. A hidden wardrobe, separated by soft carpeting, creates a backdrop – intimate, soft, complemented by a mirror reflection and lush textiles. The painting, surrounded by contemporary stucco, introduces a subtle colour tension, becoming a quiet but significant narrative accent.

Intimate spaces

The study, designed as a place for everyday work, surprises with its slightly dreamlike wallpaper, which hides the door and introduces a delicate element of illusion. The long desk seems to levitate between the walls, giving the room a feeling of lightness and focus and allowing for comfortable work. Contemporary fixtures are juxtaposed here with vintage memorabilia, creating a dialogue between the new and the inherited, between functionality and the emotional value of objects.

The entire project is an example of a conscious, mature approach to interior design, in which every element has its justification. This flat does not dazzle with effects, but builds an atmosphere that stays with its users for a long time, offering them space to live, work and rest.
