It is almost all made of wood. Celestynów railway station looks like it used to

It is over a hundred years old and has just completed its reconstruction. The railway station in Celestynów is almost all made of wood and is now under the protection of the conservation officer. The building has not only regained its former appearance, but has also been adapted to meet the needs of the increasing number of passengers.

Celestynów station is located on the historic line of the Vistula Railway from Warsaw East to Dorohusk (railway line No. 7). The station has existed since at least 1879 (initially as a passenger stop and passing station), but it is not known exactly what the station looked like at that time.

In 1893, it was reported in the press that “work is now being carried out on a major alteration and enlargement of the station house”. Interestingly, similar stations have also survived to this day in Klementowice, Gołęb and Życzyn, the railwaymen recall in a release.

The building has retained its historic form and at the same time has been adapted to meet modern needs. The historical details of the historic building have been preserved. Built almost entirely of wood, the building underwent a comprehensive renovation of the façade including architectural details. The window and door carpentry has been restored to resemble the historic one. The building also received new roof sheathing, and the facade received inscriptions with the name of the station and round clocks – one on the side of the buildings, the other on the side of the platforms. Another interesting feature is the reconstruction of the signs at the doors.

The lobby of the station houses the waiting room. The railwaymen decided to restore the original tiles on the floor, which now form a geometric pattern. In addition, the walls have been decorated with wooden panelling. The entire facility has been adapted for people with disabilities. The immediate surroundings of the station have also changed. New paving and a cycle shelter have been created, a parking space for people with disabilities has been marked out, the greenery has been tidied up and new street furniture has been installed.

The investor of the redevelopment of the railway station in Celestynow is Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. (Polish State Railways). The design documentation was prepared by MERITUM PROJEKT Marek Myrcik, and the contractor for the construction work was Heli Factor sp. z o. o. The investment was carried out as part of the Station Investment Programme.
