It is beautiful. A flat in a historic building in the centre of Warsaw

Its interior was designed by architects from the INDOOR studio. The flat is located in a historic building at 13/15 Foksal Street in Warsaw. When working on the project, the architects wanted to refer to the elegant body of the building.

The decor of this flat is not a coincidence. The solutions used here are a result of the character of the building, which dates back to the 19th century. After extensive renovation, the building has regained its luster and once again pleases the eye with details that allude to the Belle époque style.

The designed flat combines the historical and modern parts of the building.

We decided that the premise of the interior design would be to emphasise these two worlds and make them an asset that constitutes the unique atmosphere of the flat,” explain Barbara Łaźniewska and Maciek Tarchalski of the INDOOR studio.

The designers applied an interesting trick, using a division running through all the rooms. This became the axis on which they based their concept. The cobalt line clearly distinguishes the historicist stuccowork and decorations from the minimalist cement and the wall of contemporary windows.

The flat in the townhouse has an unusual layout. It is elongated. The architects therefore decided to open up the space and let in a huge amount of natural light. By using mirrors to close off the views, they achieved a light effect and a sense of space.

The duality of worlds was additionally emphasised by contemporary forms of furniture and lighting, while at the same time care was taken to select forms noble in their simplicity, which stand out with graphic lines in the surroundings of classic stuccowork and accessories,” add the authors of the project.
