The flat is located in an old tenement house in Kraków’s Kazimierz district. Its interior was designed by Oktawia Krzyżak. It is a colourful space, full of energy, in which we can find contemporary design and elements from the past.
The flat’s advantage is its very location. It is close to Plac Nowy and Plac Wolnica. There are also quite a few cafés and restaurants nearby. When designing the interior, the architect had to create a universal space, as the flat after the metamorphosis was made available for short-term rental.
I wanted it to be eye-catching, unusual but at the same time functional and comfortable. Thanks to ten years’ experience in the hotel industry, I know what guests pay attention to and what matters to them,’ says Oktawia Krzyżak.
The flat consists of two non-convertible bedrooms. The first is for two people and the second with two beds for three. A large sofa in the living room is also a sleeping area. Both the bedrooms and the living area sparkle with a fever of colours and patterned accessories.
‘I love colours, I’m not afraid to use them and that was my main idea – a bit of madness and boldness,’ admits Oktawia Krzyżak.
Strong colours can be found at every turn. The colour of the door was changed to cobalt and a similar shade was applied in the form of a belt near the ceiling. The designer combined this with the red colour of the bed upholstery and headboards. The striking wallpaper in the living room has a warm colour scheme and works perfectly with the bedrooms and the bright sofa. She repeated the head motif on the walls in the toilet and in the main bathroom in the wall sculptures.
An interesting touch was the creation of a long work desk in the larger bedroom, which was based on the windowsill. The retention of the old glass panes in the glass doors is also a plus. They are unique and enhance the character of the townhouse flat.
