Germany’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka entitled ‘Wa! Germany” is a modern vehicle of the future that invites visitors from all over the world to discover innovative solutions for a sustainable, closed-loop economy. The name ‘Wa’ draws inspiration from a Japanese word meaning harmony, circle and ‘wow’ effect, which perfectly captures the idea that ecology and modernity can go hand in hand, creating a space full of inspiration, education and interaction.
A space for education and inspiration
The Germany Pavilion is not just an exhibition – it is an interactive hub where modern technology meets an engaging form of communication. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about forward-looking concepts that promote the responsible management of natural resources. The multisensory exhibition, enriched with edutainment elements, allows visitors to discover the secrets of the circular economy through interactive experiences that engage both the senses and the imagination. Innovative digital guides – ‘Circulars’ – are distinct characters that accompany exhibition participants, imparting knowledge in an accessible and engaging way.
Architecture of the future in line with the circular economy
The architectural solutions of the pavilion are the quintessence of sustainable construction. Consisting of seven cylindrical buildings, the facility has been designed with maximum material efficiency in mind. Every element of the structure, from the cylindrical volumes to the building materials, has been developed in such a way that it can be reused after the Expo. This approach not only symbolises the modernity and innovation of the ‘Made in Germany’ name, but also provides practical proof that construction can be environmentally friendly.
Modern technology solutions
The theme of the pavilion focuses on the responsible use of natural resources and a holistic approach to economic change. The exhibition presents a collection of concepts that combine advanced technologies with practical solutions. At the heart of the focus is the idea of a closed-loop economy, where every step – from design to construction to material recycling – is implemented according to the principles of sustainability and eco-efficiency. In this way, the pavilion becomes a laboratory where innovative ideas can be tested, implemented and disseminated on a global scale.
Expo 2025 Osaka, taking place from 13 April to 13 October 2025, with the theme ‘Designing Future Society for Our Lives’, brings together representatives from 150 countries, presenting their visions of the future society. Attracting an estimated 28 million visitors, the event is one of the most important global platforms for the exchange of ideas and experiences. The Germany pavilion, prepared by a consortium of specialists with the support of Koelnmesse GmbH and concept partners, demonstrates how modern design and advanced technology can support social and ecological transformation on an international scale.
