In a cosy, new housing estate on the outskirts of Łódź, there is a flat designed to evoke a sense of homely warmth from the moment you step inside. Designed by Ewelina Górmińska, the 59 m² interior has been created with a couple or a family with a child in mind. Although it serves as a show flat, it bears no resemblance to a typical, impersonal property built for sale – instead of neutrality, there is a deliberately crafted character, and every element has been chosen so that future residents can feel that this place has its own identity.
The main axis of the flat
The kitchenette, living room and dining area form a single, seamlessly flowing space, in which each section has its own function whilst remaining part of a cohesive whole. The designer opted not to include wall units, giving the kitchen a sense of lightness so that it does not feel overwhelming despite the large worktop and spacious base units. This solution has struck a balance between functionality and visual openness – the kitchen is comfortable, practical and, at the same time, open to the living area.
Ewelina Górmińska set out to create an interior that would not be anonymous. Flats built for sale often lack character, whereas here the priority was to create an atmosphere of homely comfort. A neutral palette of materials – light-coloured walls, natural wood, soft fabrics – has been complemented by accents that lend the whole space character. Among these, the colour blue plays a special role: the lamp above the table, the painting in the living room and the bedside table in the bedroom subtly catch the eye, introducing a sense of freshness and a delicate touch of colour.
Functionality and quality
In this design, it was important not only to create a pleasing aesthetic but also to ensure there was sufficient storage space. That is why the flat’s layout includes a small walk-in wardrobe that doubles as a utility room. This solution significantly enhances the comfort of everyday life, particularly in compact spaces.
The designer emphasises that one of the biggest challenges was striking a balance between the budget and the quality of the materials. The project focused on durable products, manufactured in Poland or Europe, in line with the concept of design built to last. This approach allows for the creation of interiors that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also responsible – both economically and environmentally.
Details define the character
Although the flat is intended to be versatile, it is not devoid of individual touches. Blue accents introduce a sense of lightness and subtle energy, and their presence – repeated in several places – creates a cohesive colour narrative. These are small but significant touches that make the interior memorable and set it apart from typical property developments.
The result of the designer’s work is a flat that combines functionality, quality and cosiness. It is well thought-out, harmonious and ready to become a real home.
