In the Jeżyce district of Poznań, an apartment has been created that does not seek to dazzle, but subtly expresses its character through its proportions, lighting and carefully selected materials. Sandra Tomaszewska of sato studio has designed a 60-square-metre interior in which every element is subservient to a cohesive, understated aesthetic.
From the moment you step inside, it is clear that dark wood plays the leading role. In the hall, the built-in joinery forms a uniform surface concealing doors and spacious wardrobes. This keeps the space tidy, whilst the eye is drawn to a subtle niche with soft lighting. This small detail lends the interior depth and introduces the first touch of light, which plays a key role throughout the flat.
The living area has been designed as a fluid sequence of functions. The kitchen, finished in light tones, provides a calm backdrop – simple fronts, flush handles and a grooved wall surface create a harmonious composition that does not compete with the rest of the space. The focal point of this part of the flat is a round table made of dark wood. Its form and the distinctive grain of the material organise the space and give it a distinct accent. The softly contoured chair backs introduce a sense of lightness, ensuring that the whole remains harmonious and consistent with the design concept.
The lounge area features a sofa with soft lines and low tables with stone tops. The stone adds weight and a natural texture to the interior, contrasting with the slender lamp of organic form. Light streams in through the large windows, spilling across the cream-coloured walls and fabrics, emphasising the texture of the wood and stone. In the evening, spot lighting takes centre stage – illuminated recesses, spotlights and discreet lamps create an atmosphere conducive to relaxation.
The bedroom continues the design concept. It is dominated by dark wood combined with soft fabrics and a subdued colour palette. It is a space designed for rest, devoid of unnecessary accents, based on the harmony of materials and light.
The strongest material accent appears in the bathroom. A bespoke stone washbasin, integrated into the countertop, draws the eye with its grain. Paired with dark cabinetry and light tiles, it creates a composition that is striking yet understated. Smooth mirror surfaces reflect light, enhancing the impression of spaciousness.
Sandra Tomaszewska’s design is an example of an interior whose strength lies in its simplicity. The architect has created a home with everyday life in mind, where design supports and enriches the lives of its inhabitants.

sato studio is a Poznań-based design studio founded by Sandra Tomaszewska. Previously, she was part of the Pulva design studio for many years, where she co-created numerous residential and commercial projects. In 2025, she launched her own practice.
